Big Urban centers are the economic engines of the World. Massive urbanization took place with the industrial revolution of the twentieth century. The rural majority shrunk significantly as the people moved to cities for better employment opportunities & a higher quality of life. With the transition from an agrarian economy to manufacturing & now a service-based one, major urban centers sprang up & thrived around the globe.

This trend is all set to continue & strengthen even further. The metropolises of today are going to transition to megapolises of tomorrow. Keeping that in mind we look at the cities which will lead the charts in 2035, based on a forecast report by Oxford Economics. Each chart is defined by the following three metrics: Population, Economic size & GDP growth rate.

Most of these powerful cities will be part of megaregions that will emerge, signifying the power corridors of economic might. For now, let’s look at the top 10 cities based on the metrics above. According to the report, 780 global cities produce more than 60% of the World’s economic activity. Following were the key observations from the report:
