The Aise Hi holiday
Imagine having this conversation with your family:
“Why do you have a holiday today?”
You — “Aise hi” 🙂 (…just like that…)
At Technogise, we decide upon our annual holiday calendar democratically.
The list of all holidays of the forthcoming year is created and then every Technogiser votes on them (barring the mandatory ones if they fall on weekdays). The ones with the most votes qualify to become the holidays for the next year.
The top voted holidays are declared as Fixed Holidays (i.e. everyone would take them), whereas other holidays with lesser votes are bucketed together, so that individuals can opt for a couple of them as per their personal preference. These will be their respective Optional Holidays.
Back when we used to work from office, this holiday voting exercise used to be so chaotic and fun!😄 . People would lobby for certain holidays, try to convince others to choose one over the other, promise treats if their holiday was voted on… all in great spirit.
We still do all that now… just remotely 🙂.
We quickly learned that the holidays which fall on a Friday or Monday often got the most votes. Therefore, every year, almost ALL our chosen holidays make for long weekends.
When we looked at the potential list for 2022, we realised that the voting patterns would potentially result in a gap of 4 months between 15th April and 15th August where there would be no Fixed Holidays. That’s a long time without a holiday !!!
So we introduced a new holiday option in the list and put it up for voting. With a date of 1st July 2022 (Friday — no surprises there 😄), this holiday would offer a much needed long weekend break between the 4 month drought.
Since it was not any particular occasion as such, we decided to call it the “Aise Hi” holiday (..“Much Needed Break” was also in the fray, but Aise Hi was catchier.. 🙂..).
The voting commenced, and lo and behold, the Aise Hi holiday ended up in the top 3 of most voted holidays! 🙂
So, for the year 2022, Technogise will have a Aise Hi holiday.
It inspires us to consider nominating similar “Aise Hi”s in the following years as well, whenever we see a long holiday drought.
