When thinking about advancements in any technology, there always will be benefits and some consequences. Hopefully, the positives are outweighing the negatives and that is why we are constantly working on this technology and advancing. So, speaking in terms of medical technology, what are the benefits, specifically in the workforce?

Dr. Mona Orady speaks about her experience with robotic surgery.

For one, it saves people their jobs. Like I said in prior posts, there are robots that are now capable of performing certain surgeries. In an interview with Dr. Mona Orady, she talks about her first-hand experience with robotic surgery. She talks about the first time she performed surgery with some help of robotics. A woman was not able to get the surgery done before because of how long she would be recovering, but with the help of robotics, she was able to return to work sooner, and keep her job.

You could think of this as a benefit to the workforce. Some jobs don’t let you get a lot of time off after surgeries. This way people can return faster, keeping their jobs. This is also benefitting people who need these jobs done. For example, if your plumber is gone for months because of recovery, you have to find someone else. This way, they can return as soon as possible.

These technological advancements also create many jobs. There is a lot of money going towards medical technology in the new era we’re in. There are many job opportunities in the field of medical technology. These jobs that are opening up are great to get into. These jobs such as surgical technologists, or something related to what Dr. Orady is doing, have an average salary of $40,000 to $60,000 a year. This is huge.

Not only are these advancements having a positive impact on patients but also the people working with them.
