As mentioned in my last post, robots are capable of performing surgery, but that only scratches the surface of technological advancements in the field of medicine. These advancements could be anything, like creating technology that can detect diseases quicker than ever before.

Our knowledge of both medicine and technology has advanced tremendously within the past few years. We know so much more than we ever have. We are working at it every single day, so what she would expect in the years to come?

Virtual Reality

Virtual reality is already being played around with in the field of medicine. It is used on patients that suffer from mental health issues, like PTSD or bipolar disorder. With someone suffering from PTSD, doctors put the patients in a similar setting where they experienced the traumatic experience. Since it is virtual reality, they are in a safe space and can escape at any time. They are striving to help the patient work through the experience. This is called exposure therapy.

We should expect to see even more advancements in virtual reality being used in the medical field within the next few years.

Drone Deliveries

A company called Zipline is delivering important medical supplies, even blood, to people in Rwanda who need it using drones. It is literally ordered by text message at hospitals and is delivered to wherever it is needed in under 30 minutes. No one is flying the drones, they do it completely on their own. You can watch a video that shows how it works here. In the video, it says we can expect Zipline to start working on deliveries in other far countries and even in the United States.

As you can see, these technological advances are happening quickly. In my next posts, I will be further exploring and researching how these advancements will affect the workforce.
