Galaxy Unpacked’23 : The Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a Flex like never seen before

Smartphones are becoming boring. Or they probably have become boring already without users realizing amidst how hypnotizing the content on the screen is. Software features aside, most of the hardware in phones is pretty consistent across a brand’s lineup as well as their competitor’s lineup and that’s where the whole foldable category comes in.

Without discussing the facts of their origin and who did it first, it’s pretty easy to remark that Samsung has been leading the race with their Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold. Introduced back in 2019, this whole product category seemed to be for early adopters and it probably was. But just 2–3 generations down the line, Samsung was able to convince the market that they are serious about this new category. At this year’s Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Event today, they proclaim to have more than 100 million users for their foldable devices. That’s great for a novel category (novel because not all smartphone OEMs have dipped their hands into this yet).

Today, they launched the 5th generation of their foldable devices — the Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5. Now, I am going to be a bit biased here. I loved the Z Flip more than the Fold and luckily this year turned out to be huge for the Z Flip fans out there like me. Some of the changes do apply to the Fold too but let’s focus on…
