Be Careful What You Respond To
I am in the process of looking for a new job. Every day, I make applications, update my resume, and network by contacting potential employers.
Today, while reading through posts on LinkedIn, I stumbled across one of my former coworkers announcing he was also looking for employment. I noticed one of the people who responded to his announcement was a Human Resources Director at a given company. Her response said the following:
“Hello, I have a fantastic job opening that matches your expertise at our company. I’d love to discuss it with you! Please send me a connection request or message me directly.”
Since my friend and I had similar jobs and experience, I decided to be proactive and reach out to this hiring manager with a connection and direct message.
She sent me the following message:
“I noticed your recent post and saw you’re seeking a new job opportunity. Could you please let me know the specific role you’re interested in? Also, are you looking for on-site positions, or would you be open to remote opportunities?”
This seemed like a cookie-cutter response, especially since my “looking for work” announcement went out weeks ago. But I didn’t pay too much attention to it. I sent her the roles I was…
