Why themes are important?

Themes in Power B I change the look and feel of the report. There are many themes in the Power BI desktop as well as one can import the theme from the Power B I theme gallery.

Note: Theme has extension of .json file

To download the theme user should download the file with “.json” extension & then can use the downloaded theme in the report.

How to select a theme?

  1. Go to view.
  2. Select the theme (as shown in the below image).
  3. Apply.

Other Options:

Browse for the theme, customize the selected theme or select the theme from the theme gallery.

Creating your own theme:

  1. Go to view
  2. Select customize the current theme

1. Name & Colour:

  • For this, a user must have proper hex codes to select the specific colors.
  • In this the sequence of color is important.
  • Colour 1 becomes the default color for all the visuals, similarly followed by 2nd and the 3rd color and so on.

2. Text :

  • There are 4 sections General, Title, Cards & KPIs, Tab headers
  • A user can set Font, size, and font color for all the parameters as default in this.

3. Visuals:

  • A user can select a default background color for all the visuals.
  • Similarly can also select a color for Border, Header, and the Tooltip as a default color.

4. Page:

  • This allows a user to set a color for wallpaper and also a default background color.

5. Filter plane:

  • A user can select and set the background color, transparency, font and icon color, font size for the slicer — for header and the title.

6. Advance Option:

First level:

This level gives Colour effects to:

  • Text box default font color.
  • Table and matrix values and totals font colors Data bars axis color.
  • Default shadow color for all charts.

Second level:

This level gives Colour effects to:

  • Default label color
  • Gauge label color & target color
  • Slicer item font & outline color.
  • Button font, outline color
  • Gauge target color
  • Multi-row card title color
  • Label and category color for pie and doughnut chart

Third level:

This level gives Colour effects to:

  • Table & matrix grid color
  • Shape fill color
  • Axis grid line color
  • Gauge arc background-color

Fourth Level:

This level gives Colour effects to:

  • Funnel chart conversion rate stroke color
  • Multi-row card bar color

Background:

This level gives Colour effects to:

  • Button fill color
  • Table & matrix table background colour
  • Treemap stroke color

Secondary Background:

This level gives Colour effects to:

  • Table and matrix grid outline color

After the theme is created, the user can save the theme with .json extension and this file can be used for all other reports.

Note: A user can use the created theme file (.json) in Power B I desktop for report server.
