What Is Creator Economy
In case you haven’t heard, there is a new phenomenon called the ‘Creator Economy’.
And it’s pretty revolutionary.
This term refers to the economy in which those who create content — from musicians to writers — get funded directly by their audience. Removing the old middlemen like record labels, TVs, Newspapers, and publishers from in between.
This is a gigantic revolution in that, now those who create content can say whatever they want without getting shackled by unaccountable corporate shareholders, executives, or editors.
In the old form of content creation, major corporations who held the power of distribution decided what people got to see. Whatever they wanted to put in front of the public, would be seen. Whatever they did not want the public to see, would remain obscure. Basically, it was censorship — but a private one.
In the new form of content creation, the audience (you) decides what to see. In the creator economy, the audience not only funds their creators but also participates in the decision-making process, influencing the direction that the creators take.
This is a major step toward the democratization of everything. Because, with the democratization of content creation, especially news, the stranglehold of the old establishment and its corporations on information can be broken. And the people can get to see what’s actually happening.
A big difference from the 2000s when corporate TVs still decided what was ‘news’.
In music too — corporate record labels basically filtered artists and decided who people got to listen to. Do you have an interest in a different genre than what the corporation is interested in? Sorry, you’re out of luck.
Not with Creator Economy — you choose your artist, you fund his or her music, and you get to listen to what you fund.
Pioneering platforms like Patreon not only allow you to fund artists directly but also decide their direction through polls and comments.
You can see that this is an incredible change — now, the artists, writers, and journalists can directly work together with their community. No middlemen. No censorship.
And it shows.
Younger generations are increasingly cutting themselves off from the traditional media. Including its restrictive, controlling, and conditioning influence.
They are free to listen to whomever they want, free to watch whatever they want.
An incredible impact of the emerging Web 3.0, the democratization of the content. Giving power to the people rather than unaccountable corporate entities.
We are only in the opening stages of this new change. The following years are certain to amplify the impact and change our society considerably. For the better.
Amazing times…
