What Really Happened During the Recent Global IT Outage

If you’ve been paying attention to the news lately, you’ve probably noticed something major happening: systems shutting down, airports unable to operate, medical systems malfunctioning, local businesses resorting to cash transactions, and more. It’s chaos out there.
These moments are when tech people like me get put in the spotlight, getting bombarded with questions from curious friends and family about what went wrong. And when asked, my explanation might have sounded something like this:
“The recent global IT outage was initiated by a faulty update from CrowdStrike’s Falcon security software. This update caused system-wide reboots and connectivity issues across various sectors, including critical cloud services like AWS and Microsoft Azure. As these services underpin many operations, the disruptions cascaded through multiple industries, leading to significant operational challenges.”
