Microsoft and Sunsea Group signs agreement for Singapore data centre renewable power supply
Microsoft announced an agreement with Sunsea Group, a leading developer of solar systems, to create the “single largest” rooftop solar panel in Singapore. This two parties signed a 20-year cooperation agreement to provide a 60 megawatt (MWp) solar energy. Microsoft Singapore data centre now use 100% solar power supply.
“This deal is Microsoft’s first renewable energy deal in Asia, and is our third international clean energy announcement, following two wind deals announced in Ireland and the Netherlands in 2017,” said Christian Belady, general manager, cloud infrastructure strategy and architecture at Microsoft. Further added, this latest agreement will also enable Microsoft to invest 860 megawatts in global direct energy purchases of renewable energy projects.
This year Microsoft planning to provide renewable energy to more than 50% of global data centres.
