I thought I only needed to build a website with an online store and a shopping cart to sell stuff.

Then, I found out about sales funnels and everything changed!

I learned that sales funnel type and direction NEED to be part of your e-commerce business strategy to succeed online.

Very soon after, I also learned there were many different types of sales funnel.

There were sales funnels to get leads called lead funnels. Then, there were funnels to make money.

And then there were other types to get leads AND make more money.

In addition, there were all sorts of funnels to sell products, services, memberships, webinars, and more! Each sale funnel type was different. It was overwhelming!

I had no idea how to start and which type to choose. But I knew funnels had too many benefits over a traditional eCommerce website, so I had to learn more.

If you are new to sales funnels and digital marketing, you may be feeling the same way.

The good news is you have come to the right place. At TechShamim, my goal is to help you discover eCommerce sales funnels the easy way.

In this post, I introduce you to the two main categories of online sales funnels. Then, I share with you 12 of the most common types of sales funnel that is proven to work AND used for eCommerce business today.

Are you ready? Let’s get started!

Types Of Ecommerce Conversion Funnel Benchmarks

It is important to know that all sales funnels types fall into two general categories:

  • Acquisition Funnels — types of sales funnel that get leads with an option to join (or opt-in)
  • Monetization Funnels — types of sales funnel that make more money

A great sales funnel will have both acquisition AND monetization. It can get more leads, convert those leads into paying customers AND make more money for you.

It will use all six stages of the sales funnel.

Within these two general categories, there are many sales funnels types. To keep it simple, I list twelve of the most common types.

But if you still can’t find a funnel for your specific need, you can create your own using Ecommerce Conversion Funnel Benchmarks software like ClickFunnels®.

12 Types Of Sales Funnel For Ecommerce

Here are 12 of the most common types of sales funnel that are proven to work and used in eCommerce today:

1| The Squeeze Page Funnel

A Squeeze Page Funnel can help you to get leads. It can help you to convert a site visitor or prospect, and get an email address.

The landing page is very simple with few distractions. It has a curiosity-based headline with an opt-in to find the answer. The more curiosity, the higher the chance of getting an email address.

Once you have the email, other pages in the funnel can show your products and services.

2| The Reverse Squeeze Page Funnel

A Reverse Squeeze Page Funnel is also good for getting more leads from all your site traffic. It gives something to a visitor or prospect BEFORE they opt-in.

It could be a free ebook or training video. This helps to build trust. Once downloaded or viewed, you ask the prospect to opt-in to receive more content.

3| The Lead Magnet Funnel

With a Lead Magnet Funnel, you give something away in EXCHANGE for an email address. Like other opt-in funnels, you can give away a report, ebook, free product, video, or service. This is another type of sales funnel that is great for getting more leads.

4| The 2-Step Tripwire Funnel

A 2-Step Tripwire Funnel sells a product at a price that is too good to refuse. In step one, they give you their email address. In step two, they choose the product and give their payment details.

More offers of upsells, order bumps, and downsells are shown to increase cart value. An upsell is an upgrade, a buy more at 50% special, or an additional product.

Like an upsell, an order bump is an additional product option also displayed on the order form. A downsell is a cheaper alternative or a lower-end product that costs less.

If a visitor leaves before buying, you already have their details to follow up with a better offer. These tripwire types of the funnel are very effective in converting traffic if you have the right offer.

5| The Sales Letter Funnel

A Sales Letter Funnel uses a sales email to directly sell a product or service. It is a chance to reach out and make an irresistible offer to people on your email list. The next pages in the funnel have upsold and downsells to increase the cart value.

6| The Home Page Funnel

A Home Page Funnel uses a normal website home page, or landing page, as the entry to the sales funnel. The story behind the business is told next to an opt-in for visitors. Your best products and services are shown upfront on the home page too.

7| The Storefront Funnel

A Storefront Funnel looks very like a modern eCommerce website. It shows all your best products or services on one page. But each link takes the visitor to a different funnel built ONLY to sell that product or service.

8| The Membership Funnel

A Membership Funnel will get visitors to sign-up and pay regularly for access to content or service. This type of sales funnel is also called a Continuity Funnel and provides recurring income.

A free trial, or very low $1 offer, is used on the first squeeze page to get your visitor to sign-up. Once on your email list, you can direct them to a full membership funnel.

This type of funnel helps to convert visitors into customers that will eventually pay a higher price for your content. And that means more profit for you.

9| The Webinar Funnel

A Webinar Funnel gets visitors, or prospects, to attend a live webinar. It is great for selling training, coaching, or product. The webinar funnel comes in two stages.

In stage one, prospects must sign-up to attend the webinar. Here, they view stories of success to build more curiosity and desire.

In stage two, they move closer to the webinar with previews and a buying window countdown. This helps to build urgency, scarcity and close prospects at a higher price.

As a bonus, you can record a live webinar and resell it, again and again, using an Auto Webinar Funnel.

10| The Invisible Funnel

An Invisible Funnel gives a visitor a valuable offer for free FIRST and only charges them if they liked it. It is used to sell webinars, training courses, and coaching. The prospect must sign-up with an email address and a credit card to view the service.

Visitors are told to do nothing if they liked the free offer and they will be charged in two days. If they did not enjoy the offer they must contact you to not be charged.

11| The Product Launch Funnel

A Product Launch Funnel builds anticipation before a customer can buy from you. A series of small product previews are sent to your prospects each day for a few days.

This builds a sense of scarcity and urgency until the final day when they can buy for a limited time

12| The Application Funnel

An Application Funnel is used to get a potential client to apply before they can buy from you. It allows you to better qualify your prospects and is used for high end coaching and consulting.

The Application Funnel uses the psychological principle of “the takeaway sales close”. With a very select offer, it gets rid of objectives or pre-frames the prospect to the higher cost. It also gets them to PROVE TO YOU why you should take them on as a client.

If you are keen to start your own sales funnel, you can build any of these funnels using ready-made templates from the Ecommerce Conversion Funnel Benchmarks software ClickFunnels®.
