Boost team spirit by making the most of East London
As we hit summer season, it can be difficult to keep company spirits high. Many of us are on annual leave, so the atmosphere is never quite the same as having your full team in the office. When the weather is gorgeous and sunny in London, how can you keep your team happy at work?
We’ve witnessed some great morale boosting techniques amongst our members here at Techspace, and naturally the most effective one is food related (of course, another great way to boost your team is to get on those ping pong tables!).
East London is a hub of amazing restaurants, markets, cafes and even food trucks. There’s something for any preference, and the Techspace offices are perfectly placed to take advantage of much of the varied cuisine on offer. Did you know that eating lunch with your co-workers is good for business too? It has been proven to boost productivity.
We asked around our community and here’s our top suggestions of lunch spots in East London:
- Straits Times Kopitiam: This place is a Techspace team favourite, positioned in walking distance from our Commercial Road and Leman Street offices. A great option for sandwiches, salads, smoothies and lovely vegan cakes, and easy enough to bring your stash back to the office to enjoy in our communal areas.
2. Dinerama: Techspace member HiBob mentioned in our recent Member Spotlight interview that they like to go for team lunches every Friday. We asked where they rate, and they replied with Street Feast London’s annual summer popup Dinerama on Great Eastern Street. The late night food festival features some truly tasty trucks including Yumplings, Club Mexicana and the geniusly named Prawnography.
3. Whitecross Street Market: This street market around the corner from Bath Street Techspace, and also handy for Underwood Street, is a hidden gem. Burritos, musaka, paella — they’ve got the lot!
4. Bel Air: Recently discovered whilst on a tour of our new Luke Street location, we fell in love with Bel Air! Smoothies, salads, and delicious matcha lattes, no wonder there’s usually a long queue. If you pre-order online through the app, you get 20% off your first try and you can skip the queue. Sunny day? Then don’t miss the grassy Mark Street Gardens.
5. Jinn: Of course, we understand as a fast-paced tech business, it’s not always easy to round up the troops for a lunchtime outing. When was the last time you ordered in? Techspace member Jinn offer a whole host of eatery options in East London including office favourites pizzas and burgers. Have you also heard about #FreeBeerFriday? Yes — free beer with your orders on a Friday afternoon! A great excuse to celebrate meeting that deadline, or to make working late a little easier.
