Space to Grow: Business Insider’s London HQ
March 2019 marks Business Insider’s 5 year anniversary with Techspace. We celebrate 5 years of working together and their move into our new location, Shoreditch South.
Business Insider joined us in 2014 and set up their first UK office in Hoxton. Since then the team has grown an average of 25.5% YoY and moved 4 times across our portfolio. As we celebrate 5 years of working together and their move into our new Shoreditch location, we ask the team why they’ve stuck with us over the past 5 years.

The Challenge
With Business Insider’s continued growth they required flexible workspace that would accommodate the current team and appeal to new hires. As a team of nearly 70, they needed a private space that could be altered to suit their culture and business activities, with the option to add or reduce space as required.
“The balance between ownership and flexibility is key for us. Now that we’re approaching 70 people in London we need somewhere we can make our own. Harnessing culture is a lot about the environment, so being able to design our own workspace is invaluable to the business.” Julian Childs, Managing Director & SVP International, Business Insider.
The Solution
We were able to meet their requirements with our Enterprise product, a self-contained space that offers Business Insider all the ownership and privacy of a lease, with the flexibility and service that traditional landlords are unable to support.
We worked with Business Insider to create their own space with a dedicated entrance, branded reception, presentation areas and most notably a green screen room. This gives them the flexibility to film when they choose and saves the team production studio costs. The space is large enough to hold >80 desks but the room has been broken up into various work zones: lounges, hot desks, breakouts and booths.
“Shoreditch South is a really bright, modern space. It’s a good fit for us because we have the open working environment with the privacy of different work zones and meeting rooms”. Megan Ingham, Office Manager & HR Coordinator, Business Insider.
The move to Scrutton Street brings the team back to an area that they love. In Shoreditch they are situated at the intersection of London’s financial and technology districts, among their target audience. Office Manager and HR Coordinator, Megan Ingham noted that the area is also great for attracting and retaining talent,
“Shoreditch is a really great creative area. It has great transport links and young, talented people want to work here. Not just for their work life but also for their social life”.
Techspace Shoreditch South is the first in a series of locations that connect to a central “hub”, in this case to our Shoreditch location on Luke Street which is a 3-minute walk away. Our Hub-and-Spoke model allows Business Insider to benefit from the privacy and ownership of their own self-contained HQ without being completely disconnected from the amenities and community provided by the centralised hub.
Hub-and-Spoke members therefore retain all regular Techspace benefits, including bookable on-demand meeting rooms, concierge services, an events space and member lounge.
“Knowing that if a meeting crops up and all the rooms are booked (in our own office) that we have a larger network and pool of resources to lean on is invaluable.” Megan Ingham, Office Manager & HR Coordinator, Business Insider.
Shoreditch South is our sixth location in East London, expanding our network to include 2000 members across >100,000 sq ft in London and Berlin. We’re continuing to add locations that support mid-size businesses who have outgrown shared spaces and want more ownership of their environment. We’re thrilled to support Business Insider’s growth as we expand across Europe.
