After OnePlus stepped into the flagship territory this year with its OnePlus 8 Pro, the company also decided to launch a budget smartphone. Now there are leaks and rumours suggesting that OnePlus is going to launch its new midrange smartphone, the OnePlus Z in India in July. The last mid-ranger from OnePlus is the OnePlus X which was launched back in 2015. In a recent interview, Pete Lau said that OnePlus will be making affordable smartphones again.

“We can look at it as having a more affordable product offering, but all products that still remain up to the OnePlus standard and through this enabling, more people to have access to OnePlus products.” — Pete Lau

The new OnePlus Z is rumored to be launched on July 10, 2020 in India and some other markets, but the global launch date is unknown. Here is everything we know about the OnePlus Z.

Design and Display

Taking a look at the renders, the OnePlus Z seems to have a glass back. On the front the phone has a flat display with a hole punch camera. Unlike the OnePlus 8 series, the hole punch is at the centre. The phone retains the alert slider but there is no headphone jack.

The display is rumored to be a 6.55-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and pixel density of 402 ppi. The display also has a 90Hz refresh rate.

Processor, Ram and Storage

OnePlus Z is expected to come with the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 processor having Qualcomm Adreno 620 GPU. The CPU architecture is based on 7nm process. The phone comes with 6 GB Ram and 128 GB internal storage. As of now we do not know if there are any other ram and storage options available, but the 6 GB + 128 GB is pretty good for a mid-ranger. The phone also supports 5G as the chip-set comes integrated with the Snapdragon X52 5G Modem-RF System.

OnePlus Z comes with a triple camera setup on the rear and the camera module is on the side, unlike the center-mounted module on the OnePlus 8 Series. The main camera is supposed to be a 64 MP sensor with an aperture of f/2.0. The other two cameras include a 16 MP f/2.2 ultra-wide sensor with a 116-degree field of view and a 2 MP f/2.4 macro camera. The main camera comes with Electronic Image Stabilization and can record videos at up to 4K@30fps.

On the front there is a single center mounted hole punch cut-out which houses a 16 MP camera with an aperture of f/2.0. This selfie shooter is capable of recording 1080p videos at up to 30fps.

Other Specifications and Price

Other specifications include a 4,300 mAh battery with 30W fast charging, an in-display fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C. OnePlus Z runs on OxygenOS 10.0 based on Android 10. OnePlus Z might be available only in blue color. As per the leaks, the phone is expected to come with a price of Rs 24,990 ($330) and can be launched on July 10, 2020 in India.
