After 24h of constant coding, fueled by coffee, pizza and other sweets, the fourth edition of the Techsylvania hackathon has come to an end. The 16 teams had 4 minutes to pitch their projects and convince the jury that they are the best. Everybody did a great job, but only 3 of the teams have impressed our exquisite jury enough to win the big prize. Read on to find who they are!

The 3rd place: The Officer

This team wanted to tackle one of the most frequent issues in the workplace: the way we sit at our desks. They have developed an app that will let you know if you don’t sit correctly and will offer other details about your back condition, history and critical issues. The project was developed using Arduino and Amazon Alexa. For their great work, they got free passes for the Techsylvania 2017 conference and the chance to demo their project in front of the audience, and also a fast-track interview for the Young Leaders Club pre-seed program, personalized mentoring sessions and access to the upcoming networking events organized by Risky Business, a $588 Firebase credit from Google, a JJRC H31 Drone, powerbanks provided by NTT Data and three Misfit Flash. Wohoo!

The 2nd place: Virtual Cane

This project has been designed to help the visually impaired. Virtual Cane is an Intelligent Digital IoT stick developed with Arduino, infrared, sonar and time of flight sensors, synced with a mobile app. It’s meant to help people to estimate short distances by sound signals and vibration. We liked their ideas so the team goes home with free passes for the Techsylvania 2017 conference and the chance to demo their project in front of the audience, a fast-track interview for the Young Leaders Club pre-seed program, personalized mentoring sessions and access to the upcoming networking events organized by Risky Business, a $588 Firebase credit from Google, powerbanks provided by NTT Data, a JJRC H31 Drone and three Pebble Classic. Congrats!

Before we announce the great winner, we want to take a short moment to thank our jury members: Radu Matei — Technical Evangelist at Microsoft, Mike Costache — Managing Partner at KrowdMentor, Tudor Arsenescu — Embedded Capability Lead at Accenture, Krating Ponpool — Partner at 500 Startups, Wei-Chun Tai — Partner at Mosley Ventures, Sergiu Mircea — Head of Marketing and Communication at Banca Transilvania, Lucian Nicolaescu — Lead Architect & Focus Area Manager at NTT Data and Gabriela Filipoiu — Digital Technology Development Consultant at Accenture.

We also want to express our gratitude towards our Hackathon Partner, Accenture, for supporting us!

The great winner of the Techsylvania 2017 hackathon: iBlocks!

Thanks to their cool idea of reinventing the way code is written for IoT devices, iBlocks team has earned their first place in this competition! They used Arduino and coded in JavaScript to create an editor based on drag & drop objects that allows non-tech people build IoT systems. Their prize consists of free passes for the Techsylvania conference and the chance to demo their project on the Techsylvania 2017 conference stage, a fast-track interview for the Young Leaders Club pre-seed program, personalized mentoring sessions and access to upcoming networking events organized by Risky Business, a $588 Firebase credit from Google, powerbanks provided by NTT Data, free tickets at Startup Istanbul on October, an Amazon Echo Dot, a Parrot Jumping Sumo, a Leap Motion and a NVIDIA Jetson TX2. Congrats and enjoy your accomplishment!

And now we are getting ready for the Techsylvania conference tomorrow! Stay tuned!
