OnePlus is launching an affordable phone lineup to compensate for the higher prices of their most recent devices and allow consumers of all budgets to purchase an OnePlus phone.

Back in 2014, when OnePlus was founded, the company originally sold cheaper devices, as they retailed their first phone, the OnePlus 1, for $299, but in the past few years, OnePlus has made a name for itself by creating premium devices. They’ve challenged popular brands like Samsung and LG, providing high-end features for a lower price, but their recently released OnePlus 8 starts at a pricey $699. To make the “premium OnePlus experience accessible to more users,” OnePlus has revealed a new product lineup, the OnePlus Nord. The Nord lineup is intended for consumers who don’t have a large budget but still want premium features.

Expected Specifications

  • Snapdragon 765G Chipset (with 5G connectivity)
  • 6 GB RAM
  • 128GB of Storage
  • 3 Rear Cameras, 2 Front Cameras
  • 90hz Display
  • 4300 mAh Battery
  • 30W Fast Charging

Based on previous leaks, the OnePlus Nord is expected to be powered by the 765G. The 765G offers slightly less performance than the more expensive Snapdragon 865, but for general use, when paired with highly-optimized OxygenOS, (OnePlus’ skin of Android), you can expect fast and efficient performance from this device. The phone will sport a fluid and crisp 90hz display. 6GB of RAM is anticipated for the device, and although 8GB RAM would be better, 6GB RAM should suffice for most tasks. You can also expect 128GB storage, which is enough for most consumers.

The battery will last very long thanks to a supposed 4300 mAh battery paired with 30W fast charging. It also seems to have no headphone jack, as in the image above, you can only see a USB-C port.

The Nord will have a dual-camera setup for the front and triple-camera setup for the back. The dual-camera setup will likely feature a 32MP primary lens paired with an 8MP wide-angle sensor. The triple camera setup will feature a 64MP primary lens, 16MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP sensor, which can either be a macro module or depth sensor.

Price

In a recent Instagram post, OnePlus subtly confirmed the price. Compared to the price of the OnePlus 8, which starts at $699, the price of the Nord has been agreeably placed “under 500.” Although OnePlus hasn’t confirmed the exact price, we can expect it to be around $499.

Launch

The One-Plus Nord is now up for pre-order, and the first devices in the Nord lineup will launch in India and Europe and later in North America. A certain number of users residing in North America will get a chance to try out the phone through a highly limited beta program.

My Thoughts

The OnePlus Nord is a beautiful and sleek looking device, and it is evident that many others are highly anticipating its release. In my opinion, the phone will sell pretty well, as the value will appeal to many people. The Nord will most likely sell very well in India and Europe, and soon, it will be in stores throughout the US.
