Today is Safer Internet Day and it marks the 14th anniversary for this movement. The Theme this year is ‘Be the change: Unite for a better internet’, and we at TechToday are focused on making the internet a better place for everyone.

Internet insecurity can happen to anyone, although it is prevalent in younger people. We take today to share with you five most significant tips to safe surfing. We hope this helps.

  1. Don’t give out your personal information — It doesn’t matter what the person wants or who he is, never attempt to give such vital personal information out. Do not put your contact number or home address on your profile. It is okay to put your work details (more of your resume), since most employees do prospecting on social media these days, it could increase your chances of your landing your dream job.
  2. Always check your security and privacy settings — It is important to secure your social information by making sure only your friends see them. You don’t control over who sends you friend request, but you have the power control who sees what and who you accept as a friend. So make use your privacy settings to control who sees your information.
  3. What goes online stays online forever — Be wary of the things you post online. Whatever you post is saved on the internet forever, even if you delete it. Your past can always come back haunting.
  4. Be on the qui vive of unsecured websites — When you visit a website that requires your input of information and other vital informations, make sure it is a secured website. When shopping online or signing up to any service, take not of this.
  5. Be careful what links you click on Berth to clicking links in an email, or your social network unless you are sure the message is from someone you know. Cybercriminals have been known to hack into friends’ email accounts and social networks to send emails or post messages claiming they are in trouble and asking you to transfer them money. Don’t believe it if it sounds suspicious or offers something unrealistic.

We hope this helped! Have a safer surfing experience!
