1.Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSI) at Google

When in high school, the thought of working at Google can seem like a concept from the movies but fear not, it could be you! While Google offers several internship positions for those pursuing fields like research, design, business and more, those interested in computer science and similar fields (computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or a related area department) are able to apply to this awesome, three-week introduction to CS suited for graduating high school seniors, especially students from historically underrepresented groups in the field.

2. Microsoft High School Internship

Microsoft’s high school internship program helps students to dive deeper into computer science and programming. With their focus in STEM related fields, this summer internship is well suited for high school students interested in pursuing a degree in science, technology, engineering, or math. Students that are accepted will have the opportunity to gain experience that will expose them to what STEM jobs are like post grad, by completing several projects over the course of the internship. This internship is also available virtually!

3. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)

Although becoming an intern at NASA is an incredibly competitive process, it is most definitely one that no one should pass up applying to. Those who are accepted will have the chance to work with some of the most advanced researchers and be able to work hands on, while being mentored by their current full-time employees. They can be completed during the summer, fall, and spring, and eligibility for high-school students vary for each center.

To qualify, you need to be at least 16 years old and have a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and will need a letter of recommendation.

4. EnergyMag Internship

Help make the world a better place (literally) through EnergyMag’s internships. EnergyMag focuses on renewable energy storage and is currently offering virtual internship opportunities. Internships are open to high school and college students, where students will gain experience working in the renewable energy sector along with gaining research and analytical skills.

5. Bloomberg LP

The Bloomberg LP internship gives students the opportunity to work across departments and get to know their Terminal software and its capabilities. The Bloomberg Terminal is a computer software system provided by the financial data vendor (Bloomberg L.P. 2020). Students will be exposed to multiple teams like the Engineering team to determine what they should develop, with Sales to determine what they should sell, and with Analytics to determine which datasets and capabilities they should illuminate for their clients (Bloomberg L.P. 2020)

If these internships don’t tickle your fancy, the following websites are a great place to start your internship search journey! Remember that the application process may be a long one, but landing that dream internship makes all that hard work worth it!
