I feel ecstatic writing this.
forLoop is an community of developers in Africa as most of us know and it’s commitment to expose world-class talents in our ecosystem is undeniably going great, and in a bid to continue in this path, the forLoop Hackathon series was born.
The first edition, will be held in the University of Lagos, Akoka, and from the plans it promises to be lit! This would give developers in the institution the opportunity to work with products from the industry, showcase their individual and collective talents and also give them a platform to be ‘found’.
The Hackathons will be hosted by my humble self and this edition themed ‘Hackoka’ will be a 2-day awesome hack running through the night as well. It is slated to take place on the 2nd of Feb, 2018 to 3rd Feb, 2018. The time is 3pm on the 2nd, through to 10am on the 3rd. The venue is the Faculty of Sciences Boardroom, Unilag.
Participation
Interested participants should apply here. Applications will be closing on the 29th of Jan, 2018. Also participants can choose to be in a team or work alone, it’s that flexible. Communication would be via email and slack.
Each participant is free to build awesome products on provided APIs and services but must meet certain criteria, including:
- Application must have a real-world use case.
- Application must be web or mobile and should be optimized for mobile devices if it is a web application.
- Participants must utilize at least one of the sponsors API.
- Applications will be open-source on github.
- Participants must build applications before 11am WAT, 3rd Feb 2018.
This hackathon is open to all students of the University of Lagos.
Prizes
The prizes as customary with Hackathons will be awarded to the teams or individuals coming in the top three positions:
- 1st Prize: NGN 50,000 + Offer letter for a paid Internship with sponsors.
- 2nd Prize: NGN 25,000 + Offer letter for a paid Internship with sponsors.
- 3rd Prize: Offer letter for a paid Internship with sponsors.
Also, other awesome swags will be available as usual to be given to every participant with individual awards to other outstanding participants also available.
Volunteers
Voluteers to help with organizing the hackathon are also welcome, and please remember that the hackathon will run through the night, so be prepared. Volunteer areas include:
- Coordinate participants and provide technical assistance on the hackathon day.
- Assist with overall logistics of the event.
- Judge the submissions of applicants.
