Why is on page SEO factors so popular

seo factors

It’s no big shock that most marketing gurus will tell you that old types of marketing are no longer working. When in the last time you got a mail out from a company?

How about when is the last time you did a TV Survey of the shows you watch from Nielsen? Long ago they used to send out surveys with a few dollars attached to draw in interest.

All of these marketing tactics are out of date and no longer give a good return on investment. So what can savvy web markers do?

The answer enters search engine optimization or SEO for short. Marketers both big and small figured out that Google has a ton of customers on it, if they could just draw those customers in they could be rich.

So begins the start of a new marketing that brings customers to people. And why is SEO so popular, it’s free. It requires more upfront work but almost zero money to get started.

How to get started with SEO today

Google has been watching and learning from the way people search. It’s no surprise they are the king of search engines. While Bing and Yahoo may have a following, but Google is king. They have paved the road for the rules of search.

So how can new businesses and others take advantage of SEO without paying a firm tons of money? The answer, know the rules.

It’s just like working with a tax person, is that person is often no better trained than someone who studies tax. SEO is taking the confidence to do something, experimenting and then making changes once you see results.

I want to be clear about something before we dive into these rules for on-page SEO factors.

First, this isn’t a magic bullet that will get you, clients, today. SEO is a slow system that often takes months if not years to see results. But if you follow these rules, you will see results.

On page SEO Titles

One of the easiest ways to help out your on page SEO is through the use of title tags which are called H1-H6 tags. These tags as you might guess tell Google what your page is about.

Google ranks these title tags in importance as you might expect. H1 are the big daddy titles that often give the most juice in terms of importance, so you should NEVER spam H1 tags. Too many tags can confuse Google and other search engines.

H2-H6 are supporting title tags, these are often used to support the H1 tag which Google helps Google determine what your page is about.

So a rule of thumb is to limit the use of H1 to once or twice on a page with H2 scattered throughout. Also, make sure that titles are including the keywords you want to focus on.

Alt Tags on Images

Google is a robot and like any robot, it can’t really interrupt what images are unless the image is very descriptive and gives people an idea of what the image is about.

If you go into the image details, you will find a tab called the Alt tag which standards for alternative text for an image. This allows the image to default to text when the image does not load or is broken.

As a rule of thumb, you should try to add a single keyword into this as it makes sense but do not keyword stuff. And make sure your alt text matches the image otherwise, you’re going to be ticking people off.

Always remember for, on page SEO factors, Google gives props to people who make content for humans and not the robots. This makes a big difference when you are doing SEO pages.

Page Description

A page description is the meta information that a search engine uses to determine what the site is about. In the past, people have known to keyword stuff these but Google through sweeping changes killed this in one swift move.

Now page descriptions are useful but not as powerful as they once were. Still, they should be considered and your keyword should be included in it for better SEO results.

Outbound Links

seo factors

Google likes sources that link out to other pieces of content such as how we used information from both Moz and Backlinko. Outbound links show Google that you interested in sharing information among the greater good which can be helpful.

It’s been my experience that articles that share more links tend to move a little better than those who do not. This isn’t a giant jump, but it’s enough of a bump that you should make sure your article is being generous with Outbound links.

Optimized Images

Just like you need to hunt down keywords and creating decent content images are no different. You need to make sure you are optimizing images in the same way as headings.

Make sure at least one image on the page is optimized with your keyword and make sure all your images are compressed down for quicker loading time.

This type SEO factors matter a great deal to Google since everything is moving to mobile friendly. Optimized images are a must in helping you rank faster, we use Shortpixel to make this happen on our site.

Internal Links

Just like outbound links, internal linking is important as well. Google likes to see a good mix of both internal linking and outbound links to give you the most bang for your buck.

Pages that link internally to other pages create a giant link chain that makes it easier for a person to navigate your website or pages.

As part of our free report, we can show you which pages need to be linked to what.

SEO factors Site Speed

One of the biggest SEO factors that people often forget is site speed. A lot of times a person may have little control over a slow host since that’s the host’s problem, not yours. However, you are paying them.

I would recommend that you try things like Pingdom Speed Test for our site speed and then find out if the host is lagging behind. If they are, you likely want to ditch them and find a better host.

Just starting out, we recommend someone like BlueHost that ranks well among website standards and ratings. But there are plenty of other high-level hosts who are also good, do your due diligence and make sure you’re not getting screwed.

A bad web host and slow site speed can kill a website faster than any of the above. Make sure, your sites are fast.

Be Social, Rank higher

Make sure that on your pages you are including things like social buttons and sharing. It’s been proven by several sites that these send positive signals to Google that your site is worth ranking.

Problem is when you start out, you’re usually the only one looking at your site. So do some legal work and make sure your site is being submitted to social sites.

Here at Brandingpop, we love MissingLettr which posts our blog posts on an auto dip for the next 12 months. Of course, every business is different. You should have your marketing person take a look at your campaigns.

Social signals help SEO factors more than some others on this list, so do not ignore them.

SEO Factors demystified

Hopefully, this article helps someone out there fix problems on their website. A lot of these things are simple to fix and take a little time.

However, if you ignore these simple rules, you will rank lower and lower on Google for no reason other than you’re paying by your own rules.

Google has a huge weight on its shoulder by creating SEO factors that affect the rest of the search engine landscape. You would be wise to learn them and pay by their rules.

I hope this article helps your site rank higher and if you need help Brandingpop does SEO for small businesses.
