Class is in Session: 5 Takeaways from Social School
Written by Zahra Rezaie, Marketing Assistant at Tech West Canada

As the landscape of marketing continues to change, increasing awareness and establishing your brand as the best can feel like a hefty and expensive task, but we’re here to remind you that it doesn’t have to be!
A couple weeks ago the Social School hosted a workshop on all things social see what’s new in the busy, hyper competitive world of social media marketing for the Tech West Canada team. Here are my top 5 takeaways:
1. Know Your Brand’s Purpose
Knowing your brand’s purpose is all that matters and it’s everybody’s business. Who are you, what do you and your brand stand for and why are key questions everyone on your team (and especially your social media manager) should be able to answer. Your consumers will respond better if you speak their language, carry the same belief systems, and value the same things they do — and they’ll also be able to tell if you’re the real deal or a fake.
2. If You’re Talking to Everyone, You’re Really Talking To No One
Talk to people as if they’re the one, not the one in a million. Be real with them. Zone in on your target audience, define them as of person or persona, and speak to them as if they’re the only one in the room.
3. Attention is Everything
Be where your audience is now, not yesterday, last year or tomorrow. Then, give them content they care about from a brand that they love, admire and follow — your brand of course ;). At the end of the day people care about what you’re doing for them TODAY.
4. Less Is More and Quality Rules
Quality is the name of the game. Identify the content pillars and formats that are actually moving the needle and leading to meaningful actions for your business and focus on creating more of THAT. Don’t just post to hit a quota, true engagement comes from quality content.
5. The 4Ps Have Changed to the 4As
The 4Ps of Marketing (Price, Product, Promotion, and Place) have now changed to 4As in the context of marketing on social media.
- Authenticity
- Accessibility
- Authority
- Advocacy
Social media is one of the most powerful (and inexpensive) tools for establishing and fostering brand authority and brand awareness. Do you have any other tips? Let me know in the comment section!
