One article shared at Facebook group reminds me wonderful conversation at TEDSummit2016.

Original article is here.

“New Uber-style mobility service will allow public to call wheelchairs with an app”

It says Uber-style, so actual service is provided by Scootaround based in US.

Technologically it’s possible to dispatch autonomous wheelchair at airport from A to designated area.

WHILL official site mentioned when human operate wheelchair by manual mode.

WHILL has already done test drive at Heathrow airport.

Then, we expect driver will be able to manipulate personal vehicle by brain waves directly.

At TEDxHimi, Dr. Nakazawa gave us a talk about his research that human can manipulate wheel chair by brain waves. (only in Japanese)

Then, we continue to discuss what’s current pain and issue for wheel chair users.

One of my mentors told me this.

Most of problem parents has disable kids is that, what if they die before kids, who push their wheel chair ?

Here’s issue we need to solve by autonomous personal mobility.

In that case, why don’t we save all data around personal mobility, environment, conversation, actual movement of wheel chair until parents can push.

“We need to slow down here, because of almost cherry blossom season may come.”

“We can take a short rest, view from here is wonderful.”

Maneuver data is stored when they drive on bumping road, just slow down few inches before hit sidewalk.

Then, AI studying those data when autonomous personal mobility is controlled as parents push lively.

A half year after TEDxHimi was held, I attended TEDSummit and met one of IBM fellows and Mad Scientist, Dr. John Cohn.

We enjoyed conversation at TEDSummit, and I was surprised his comment.

When I explain how we apply AI for autonomous wheel chair, he said,

“Never thought about that way. So, AI is parents’ love!”

with Dr. John Cohn at TEDSummit 2016.

Usually AI is used for how we improve productivity, but conformability (nowaday it is).

I found a different way of thinking.

So we, Japanese has unique view points from Western culture.

Also, majority of AI engineers is dominated by US and China.

I was uncomfortable this situation.

However, from conversation with him, there’s a hint how Japanese take action about AI and singularity, not necessarily win AI war and impossible to win.

After 3 years from TEDSummit, autonomous personal mobility can be dispatched at airport.

And I feel that almost AI from parents’ LOVE will be feasible soon.

This article above reminds me that conversation at TEDSummit and want to share quotation from Steve Jobs.

“It is in Apple’s DNA that technology alone is not enough.
It’s technology married with liberal arts, married with the humanities, that yields us the result that make our heart sing.”

Moreover, he pursue Zen culture upon Liberal Arts in Kyoto.

I’m happy to share that we have all in Kyoto from Liberal Arts to Zen.

I’ll be instructor at Liberal arts section and related work shops, such as design thinking rapid proto-typing at “Creating Wellness Venture Eco-system” hosted by KRP (Kyoto Research Park) starting from October, 2019.
