An impulsive criticism would be that we are more intelligent than the chimps but for all we know, WE ARE NOT THE ONLY HUMANS THAT EXISTED IN HISTORY. Homo Neanderthals, Homo Erectus and recently we also have discovered the Denisovans who were physically larger than us did exist in Siberia, then why is it that only one species of the Genus HOMO survived, known as Sapiens( ps:- for all the folks from Ku Klux klan black people also come under this). And the answer is …..
COOPERATION.
Sounds generic but the only reason we are nearly 8 billion today is the fact that we have an ability that has helped us to become the most dangerous species on the history of planet earth. So dangerous that the moment we stepped onto the land of Australia we turned 85 percent of the animals extinct which were double-digit times the size of us and deadlier than any other mammal found today.
The secret ingredient in the recipe of our survival is that we could work in groups of thousands we were able to make rules for behavior amongst ourselves our common superstitious beliefs like believing that earth is flat or moon is a god or whatever, however ridiculous it may sound it has made us come together in thousands and help us form societies, where if one person invents the wheel for convenience it is used by the entire species.
These beliefs only grew so did humanity we started forming cults and groups behind imaginary concepts like nations, religions, armies and we prevailed from the invention of fire to Facebook, from the discovery of agriculture to the rise of Mcdonald. When religion started to grow dull due to the scientific revolution, theories like communism and capitalism came into being based on the efficiency of the economy.
We never failed to bring imaginary concepts like money, power, fame, data, religion, culture, heritage, which from the point of science are bogus, but made us survive throughout history because they made us come together and cooperate for our own survival or the survival of the imaginary concept we believed in, we became friends with each other and then went to war, we started destroying our surroundings and eventually started to preserve it not because we suddenly fell in nature but we discovered that in order to survive the existence of nature is necessary!!!
Observance.
Male lions live a loner lifestyle. An alpha male lion lives with different lionesses, who together hunt animals and bring them to their common husband. For thriving as a male lion you have to defeat other lions and prove to the females that you are alpha to be accepted. Otherwise, you live alone, hunt your own food keep your distance from hyenas, etc it’s tough to exist as a beta male lion.
Makulu a not so alpha lion, unaccepted by lionesses, living on the mercy of the male lions in his pride one day decided to form a group with other lions like him, he knew that in order to survive he has to form an unlikely alliance with other male lions who had the same Grim situation. He left his own pack and formed a coalition of cooperation with five other male lions for just one simple objective: SURVIVAL
His pride of six male lions was actually the infamous MAOPOGO LION COALITION, single handily responsible for killing over an excess of 100 lions in a period of less than a year. The coalition became infamous for its sheer power and strength in taking over and dominating an area of approximately 70,000 ha (170,000 acres). These lions were not special they just had one distinct feature:- COOPERATION.
SO WHAT EXACTLY MADE US COME TOGETHER.
There are many theories related to how we became who we are, some of them make sense and some don’t (there is also a theory called “stoned ape theory”). But the only hypothesis in context to cooperation that makes sense is the invention of myths. From ancient sphinx to the Taj Mahal, from Indus valley civilization to medieval China. One thing is common in all the founding pillar civilizations of mankind and that is MYTHS.
DO WE STILL LIVE IN MYTHS??
Very passively but yes, with scientific revolution one thing was sure that now you can ask WHY??. With this a new kind of belief system evolved known as humanism, meaning every development and change should have only one goal and that is to help mankind prosper and any other belief that lays as an obstacle should be declared obsolete, whether it evolutionary humanism(for eg Nazism) or communism they failed terribly and liberalism took over which in itself is a belief.
With artificial intelligence knocking on our doors, we have lost our ability to cope with technological advance, some theorists believe that Dataism( extraction of data for convenience and to predict certain things) is the new belief system of the 21st century whereas there are some who believe that communism will make a rebound some still believe in white supremacy while there are some tribes in Amazon who believe in psychedelics as the ultimate source of knowledge whatever we believe in as long as we do it in some sense, we will prevail!!!
