Dressing for Success
By: Saniya
“You can have anything you want in life if you dress for it” (Edith Head).
It might be an exaggeration, but the essence of it is true. Whether you actually have success or not, dressing well gives the impression of success and can make a world of difference. In fact, studies have shown that people judge others based on the first five to seven seconds of interaction. So, during job interviews, business pitches, or events it is crucial to be impeccably dressed. And it’s not just other people who feel the difference; you’ll feel the difference too. Recent studies have proven that well-dressed people feel more confidence and power, as it can change the way people view themselves and the actions they consequently take.
Tips for Dressing for Success:
It is important to keep in mind that dressing for success does not mean you have to spend money. You just need to look good, and hopefully feel good.
1. Be simple
Don’t overdo it. For instance, make sure that accessories such as earrings or watches don’t take over your look, but complement it. They can’t be the star of the show. It is also important to use minimal fragrances, such as cologne or perfume.
2. Clean and pressed clothes
It might be obvious, but make sure your clothes are freshly laundered and pressed. It’s also important to make sure your clothes are well-fitting. Being put-together is paramount!
3. Dress appropriately
If it is a black-tie event, wear a ball gown or a tuxedo. If it’s business casual, make sure you look professional. Remember though, if you aren’t sure, err on the side of caution with more formal attire.
