OkHi, which is pronounced “Okay Hi”, is a Nairobi based startup that has for goal to solve the lack of physical address system in Kenya and beyond. Specifically, OkHi has for mission to enable the 4 billion people in the world without a physical address to have access to the same services as everyone else.

Timbo Drayson and Navraj Ghataura founded this digital startup in 2014. They aim to create the next generation of a physical address system. In doing so, OkHi as a mobile strategy wants to drive and potentially increase eCommerce on the African continent. OkHi founders also strongly believe that with this new generation of physical addresses will save lives by improving access to emergency services through a better identity system.

OkHi was featured in the Google Developers Launchpad program. See the video below.

How does OkHi works?

OkHi is a software solution that provides accurate delivery for businesses in Nairobi, Kenya. The delivery person receives from OkHi the user’s mapped coordinates and a picture of the front of their house. The combination of GPS coordinates and an image of the location front door are are used to assign a unique address, which is then converted into a web address that can accessed via text, email or internet browser.

Also, OkHi provides technology solutions to help improve customer experience when it comes to delivery service in Nairobi. With the app, OkHi drivers are able to manage their deliveries. With the app, the driver is able to send an Uber-style tracking link which will show the customer the delivery location and a time estimate of when the goods will be delivered. According to OkHi’s founders, the app reduces delivery time by 50%. For example, Jumia, an African e-commerce platform, uses OkHi addresses to reach many of its customers.

Here are the numbers collected by OkHi from 20,000+ deliveries done in Nairobi.

Most importantly, as a mobile tech solution in Africa developing economy, OkHi moves the continent further into the digital and mobile era. This African innovation enables connectivity and access for many people. There is no doubt that OkHi is one piece in a growing ecosystem.
