Today TeKAfrica is shining a light on one of the technology innovators in Africa: Godfrey Magila, Founder of Magilatech and Forbes Africa nominee for the 2017 30 under 30.

Who is Godfrey Magila?

A self-taught coder, Magila was born and raised in Tanzania. Life was not always easy for this successful twenty five years old African entrepreneur. There is no doubt that Magila’s resilience surpasses many. He lost both of his parents at a very young age and his adopted family passed away in his late teens. Nonetheless, Magila managed to attend university with the help of government scholarship and money earned doing small software development activities while in school.

In 2011, Magila became the winner of the first hackathon competition on software development in Tanzania. Part of the prize was a tech mentoring program. As a result, Magilatech was born in 2012. Additionally, in 2015 Magila spoke at the Young African entrepreneurs Slush Conference. It was an opportunity for him to meet experienced Information Technology (IT) experts and share business ideas.

What is Magilatech?

Magilatech, an African Startup, offers software development services and security audit. The company also provides value added services Market Solutions. Magilatech aims to deploy new innovative solutions with great experience for its customers. For example, it launched Tigobackup which is a mobile security application performing full content backup on mobile device and anti-theft commands. It has recovered more than 3,600 lost and stolen devices. Making it mobile Africa much more effective.

Currently, Magilatech employs 14 people. The company made over $1 million last year. It developed apps for many of the biggest telecom companies on the African continent: Airtel, Vsomo, Maxcom, Selcom and DayOne Softcom.
