Case study: Oncology Insurance quote — Pacifico Insurance

Pacifico Seguros is a company in the insurance market in Peru, whose main goal is to help their clients overcome any unforeseen circumstances, they’re part of the CREDICORP group, one of the biggest financial holdings in Peru.

For more than 8 years, Pacifico Seguros has been a client of Tekton Labs, and we’ve worked on many different projects like their corporate website, registry forms, online quotes, campaign landings, complaint forms, among others. Some of these apps were hosted on AWS instances as well as the respective database.

In the last few months the number of visits and records in those applications went up by 40% and when companies create online campaigns, the record may go up by 70%. This growth related to records and app visits generated an increase in resources in the server.

In the face of this challenge, Tekton’s infrastructure team performed an analysis of the infrastructure simulating scenarios with new instances and identified that, by having a sole instance and using the previous analysis — we recommended changing the architecture, which is formed by various instances of small and medium servers distributing the load according to the need of each application.

The proposal was based on including an application load balancer (ALB) provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS). Previously to this installation of the ALB, we proposed to add new small and medium instances (virtual servers) in which we will be able to host all the applications according to the need and turnout of the existing users.

Additionally, we took the database from the instance and added a new database from an RDS provided by AWS.

The results we got after implementing the proposed solution were the following.

• Load distribution between applications
• Increase in response speed in the database.
