Telecompaper reports:

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) plans to start the roll-out of a 5G network in 2019, once the International Telecommunication Union allocates the necessary bandwidth, also in 2019. CA director general Francis Wangusi said the new technology will aid in the roll-out of artificial intelligence and blockchain technology.

My thoughts: At the moment, African telcos are still struggling to deliver 3G and 4G network services and are yet to provide coverage to at least 70% of the region, country or province/state where they operate. These regulators should just focus on making telecom operators improve the quality of their existing products and services, rather than encourage them to have a “me-first” approach to adopting new technologies.
