Introduction
This section is written by Teleschope
Tampines Meridian Junior College is a merged JC that started operations in January 2019. With a strong heritage and culture of both Tampines Junior College and Meridian Junior College, TMJC offers a wide range of educational experiences and enrichment programmes. Perspective-taking discussions, learning journeys, as well as dialogues with office holders have been adopted to help students think critically and embark on an authentic and personally meaningful Character and Citizenry growth journey. The Global Education programme also offers rich opportunities for students to immerse in foreign cultures, learn about emerging economies in the region and gain insights into unique societal issues. Through these overseas experiences, TMJC aims to grow their students as individuals and citizens who are equipped to be active global citizens.

“ Well, in the first year, there wasn’t really a culture because we had a mix between TPJC and MJC. But now, …
our culture is really to have everyone in this school learn together and unite as one

“ I was not sure of where I wanted to be in, and I felt that I needed that time to think. Rather than wasting that time thinking, I rather take that opportunity to learn in JC rather than poly

“ personally, the main reason as to why i chose to go to jc instead of poly was because i had no idea what course i would want to take if i were to go to poly but looking back, i do not regret my decision as i came to appreciate and prefer jc life over poly life.
I chose tmjc because of the distance from my house to the school and the CCAs. Everyone has different needs and preferences so one may also consider looking at tmjc’s H3 subjects and the subject combinations ”

“ There are various bands I would say. The above ranks are certainly competitive, but I feel that…

“ I think it differs for every batch. From my personal experience, its the people you surround yourself with that allows you to do better in your studies. If you end up in a competitive class, you will end up feeling more stressed about your studies. Whether that is good or bad depends on the type of person you are ”
Q4. Was the it tough to get into a CCA?
“ For me, I am not sure of that, because I DSAed into this school through symphonic band. If you really are capable and interested in a CCA, it’s high chance that you will get that cca.”
“ I think sports cca in tmjc are harder to get in. The trials can really determine whether you make it in or not but it also depends on how many people are signing up for the CCA. If there are more people signing up for that CCA, the harder it is to get in ”
Q5. What are some special traditions/ activities your school has?
“ Right now it is just TM celebrates, sports day and orientation. And next year there will be tonnes of performances to watch, like band, dance and etc. Honestly, I love all of them in different ways ”
“ We have a few festivities in tmjc! Those that come to mind are: orientation, open house, TM celebrates, leadership camps, overseas trips and nation wide festivities such as CNY and National Day. They all give the students a chance to take a break, take part in fun activities and eat good food provided by the school but my favourite has got to be orientation. When you first come to TMJC, you are greeted by the loud cheers from the OGLs. Every single day of the orientation is planned by the student council including the cheers, activities and orientation shirt. The bonding activities with our orientation group and seniors allowed me to find life long friends from TMJC and orientation will give you some of the best memories in this school as an ogm or ogl ”
Q6. What is the class size and gender ratio?
“ It’s subjective. I’m in an arts class, and we have 4 boys and 15 girls. But there are science classes that are the other way. So like, there are different combos ”
“ Classes are usually quite small and will never have over 20+ students. gender ratio depends on what subject combi you take. physics classes are mostly male dominated while bio and humans/arts classes are female dominated ”
Q7. Are tutors easy to approach and open for consultations?
“
Really easy to approach
but you must put in the effort to ask. They are not going to prompt you all the time. JC is about independent learning, and if you are not going to take responsibility of your learning, the tutors won’t be as useful. There are consultation sheets on the tmip, and u can ask teachers on WhatsApp etc. Etc ”

The tutors in tmjc are all really helpful and friendly
They are always open for consultations and some even encourage consults during non-exam periods. Consultations are always highly encouraged the week before major exams ”
