Compassion Matters

I see you

I don’t delve into politics — it’s highly personal, just like religion. Nothing I might say or do would sway anyone from their personal political convictions. I don’t want to change anyone’s beliefs. So don’t get the wrong idea here — I’m not talking about politics. I’m talking about compassion.

As the primaries approached, it seemed like the parties pulled out all the stops. Personal attacks, old grudges, mistakes and missteps became fair game. It was a veritable bloodbath of anger and accusations. Most elections are. The question is: Why?

Given what our world is going through on a daily basis, from bombings and sniper attacks to road rage and hate crimes, isn’t it time we started showing one another a little more compassion?

Is it really necessary to get impatient with the person in front of us in line as they try to find that last dime to pay their tab?

Do we have to be so judgmental of those that aren’t like us?

Must we feel annoyed with our kids when they’re acting up?

It’s a hard habit to break, and takes a lot of work, but I do believe it can be done. With some mindfulness and a less judgmental attitude, I think we can all make a small difference in our co-existence with others on this planet.
