Experimenting In Life

So you Experience

Throughout yourday to day routine of waking and sleeping, we make a choice to live in one of two colors — black or white.

Living in either provides certainty (to an extent) in that you know what you are getting yourself into. You have at least a 90% assurance of the outcome. People never want to live in the grey area. There’s too much uncertainty and unknown variables to calculate.

The grey area is where experimenting lives, the white and black most people live in are the results. However, it takes a certain willingness to take risks in your life. Risks that involve experimenting with the good and bad. That can come in the form of taking a different route to work to leaving your 9–5 job to pursue basket weaving. The point i’m making is to not be afraid to experiment in your life. It’s through the inherent chaos that risk taking and experimentation offers is where we grow stronger — in body, mind and in life.

Through chaos is born strength

Risk vs Reward

If you look at everything from macro or micro results, you’ll soon find that the ability to take risks presents something very clear and scary. That risk taking will never provide you with a definite answer and that in itself is one of the primary reasons we never take risks with any thing in life. We want to know the net result, we don’t like to suffer even 1% in order for a $100 investment to turn into $1,000. There’s too much to calculate and analyze, but that’s exactly the thing.

“We spend too much time calculating and thinking about the “What If’s” and X-Factors”

That’s not living life friends, that’s being afraid of living and with that will come regret and anger. Regret for not taking a risk when you look back at 70 years of your life — anger at the world because you chose to play a victim to your own creation.

Yes, taking a risk is scary but I invite you to look at the macro right now rather than the micro. Look at yourself from the inside out rather than through the external judgement lens of others. Much of that is also being able to tactfully defeat your ego so that when it’s beaten to a pulp it can be rebuilt to your advantage; you can call upon your ego at any time to get you through difficult situations and instill discipline and focus throughout your life.

You must be fully willing and able to deflate expectations you put on yourself and not worry about the net result to the point where you’ll never take action. It’s okay to worry and have doubts or fears, but you can’t live in that place. When you do, nothing will be accomplished and the ultimate regrets of your life may start to slowly build up like moss along trees.

The rewards will be there IF you can deploy humility, integrity and acknowledge that your experimenting with life creates the right balance of yin and yang for your life.

Grow on the inside

Identify with who you’re becoming

It’s hard not to be attached to who you are and the direct outcome of your actions. I implore you, that today you begin to not care about the results themselves. What I mean by that is have goals, deadlines and realistic expectations but don’t be attached to a specific outcome. Work towards your goals and dreams but if you strategize for an entire year, execute and come up 10% short then you came up 10% short — move on.

By doing so you will become a stronger version of you through your failures and short comings. Nothing in life will ever be perfect and if it is then say a prayer, find gratitude and keep moving forward. Lingering in pride and small victories may create a false sense of winning the war, but the war is never over not until your final breath.

With each passing day, week, month and year we continue to evolve. You aren’t the same person you were a year ago, we all mature in different areas of our lives and that’s one of the most beautiful things about being a human being.

We create our destiny, we manufacture the process by which we grow and fall. We are the director and producer of our lives — we’ll create great works of art and pieces that will receive 1/10 stars, that’s just the way it is.

Take Away

Without question, risk taking is one of the hardest things for you to make. Not only does it require bravery and courage to take the plunge, but a part of you may not want to grow. You may not want to become a more powerful version of you and that’s okay.

Not everyone is ready in this particular moment, but I invite you to sincerely think about your life and the risks you have not taken. Look back at the last 10 years and catalog all of the risks you weren’t able to take and where you are now. Is it safe to say that if you took at least one of those risks (experiments) you could have made an impact?

I’m not sure, but my gut tells me yes
