Saying No Means You Don’t Know

“Ignorance Is Bliss”

Is it not? Think about it, the less you know, the easier it is to say no. You can say no to just about anything in life from a basic, “did you see the game last night?” to “Is love needed in today's world?”.

Okay I know that last remark was a bit harsh and perhaps irrelevant, but what I invite you to look reflect upon is the impact ignorance has on the everyday psychology of how we, as human beings, react and respond to external stimulus — especially in the realm of injuries and pain (both physically and emotionally).

For pain is one of our greatest teachers, it will show you when things aren’t going right without question. It’s primary goal is to be blunt and simple, no beating around the bush with Dr. Pain.

You see Dr.Pain comes to visit us frequently, at least 50–100 times a year, but when he comes he doesn’t leave a bill or invoice. No, he actually gives you FREE check ups as well as prescriptions — pretty generous wouldn’t you say?

The thing is, what have you done over the years when he visits you? Well if you’re like 80% of Americans with say lower back pain, not a single thing. At least at first right? That’s the big picture here, it’s because you have programmed yourself to saying NO rather than accepting and understanding the profound and highly deliverable word KNOW; you may be saying No to something but if it’s because you don’t KNOW, so I invite you to start getting to KNOW!

It isn’t difficult to locate resources and tips for relieving pain or recovering from an injury. The internet has so much information, albeit the information out there is scattered between what’s trendy and what you actually need.

Yet thousands upon thousands of people have learned to immediately respond to questions regarding their physical and mental health with the word “No”. Well let me ask you this, how many times does it take you to say NO to, “I don’t need help with my diet i’ll figure it out” or perhaps “No thanks, there’s plenty of free programs out there, I mean ONE of them HAS to work!” before it’s 10 years down the road and now you’ve come to the realization that you should have KNOWN to ask for support and guidance rather than trying to figure it out all on your end (yes i’m speaking to you Type A’s).

The real crux here is when it comes to pain, we’ve become so desensitized to physical pain that we completely ignore it! We wait 5, 10, 15, 20 years before doing anything about it — friends if you only took a deep look inside and asked yourself what the lasting effects of not doing anything about your pain would be, then you would see why i’m so passionate about this subject.

Take my word for it, you don’t need to wait even 3 years as I did to find you out you had a herniated disc in your lumbar spine,

Because now you end up spending another 10 years finally figuring out the what, why and how to adapt your lifestyle to meet the challenges you have. I’m not talking about google searches or YouTube videos, i’m speaking to going the distance to KNOW the what, why and how to create holistic changes through training, education and then teaching others so that I had the opportunity to:

  • Better manage my pain
  • Create an adaptable system to accommodate the dynamic nature of life

Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of great resources on the internet but you can only get so far with that. You’re not baking a cake here, this is something that you should be taking as serious as raising a child — it’s that important!

The Dark Ages

Remember when the plague had left Europe both economically and socially in a slump? Probably not because we weren’t around during that time, BUT if history has taught us anything it’s if we don’t learn from our mistakes then the future will always repeat itself. The less attention you pay to Dr.Pain, the less enjoyable time you’ll with your friends, family and loved ones.

When was the last time you were able to have good quality time with your family and friends without having to worry about each and every step you take due to some injury? It’s stressful and it wreaks havoc on both your physical body and emotional foundation — you deserve to be living an authentic life without your pain being the director of everything.

How long will the dark age last you ask? It depends, how long are you able to live with the pain? For some people it’s 5 years, others it’s 50 years — I sincerely invite you to rethink your situation if you answered waiting up to 50 years…there’s no need for that friend, absolutely not. Take initiative and own up to your current environment, it’s never too late to start but it’s always too late when regret starts to fill your head.

Progress is Progress

Would you agree that decreasing your pain by 5% is progress? If yes, perfect! Why am I so excited? Well it’s because now you’ve been able to communicate with your inner-self toward creating a positive change in your life. The moment you begin to respond positively toward a lifestyle change is the beginning of a process, it is the arduous but rewarding journey of finally coming to terms with where your pain is, what has been causing it and what solution is going to work for you.

I won’t debate about who to see or what qualifications to look for, my objective here is to have you (the reader) start to build awareness of your pain; to start saying, “I want to know” rather than “No, I don’t”. Allow curiosity as well as living a life full of happiness to be the only motivational factors you need to take the first step towards becoming a more powerful version of you — in body, mind and in life.

Allow the small victories to build momentum and sustained courage to keep moving forward — 1% a day for 365 days is 365% in positive change, that’s incredible! Even if you managed 100 days of 1% change that’s 100% positive change friend! Be proud, happy and feel accomplished for that. Yet, this will only happen for you if you start to recognize the words you use — remove NO and replace it with KNOW. Keep replacing it day after day until the word NO does not exist with relation to pain.

There’s Light At The End

One of the most profound written words i’ve ever come across are from Ralph Waldo Emerson; I love Emerson and if you truly look at what he wrote at the time he was alive, they were far above what anyone else in the Western hemisphere was even contemplating.

Emerson said this,

“Do all that you can this day and be done with it. Tomorrow is a new day, you shall begin it so serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old non-sense”

You will see that there’s light at the end of the tunnel if you buy into the belief that every day presents opportunities for you to do all you can, but then become detached from it — don’t linger onto pride and ego because the next day will bring all new variables into your life. The more you think tomorrow is going to be the same is when life will throw you a curve ball, then a slider, then two fastballs and before you know it you’re striking out.

Start the conversation within you about Dr. Pain, why is he always knocking on my door and when will he leave me alone? Remove the word NO with the resourceful word KNOW and the window of your spirit will start to open, allowing light to slowly shine in toward your heart and giving you an opportunity to make a change.
