Telnyx Mission Control Portal — Connectivity Made Simple

Traditionally, managing telephony infrastructure has been a great pain in the sides of all businesses. There is the initial problem of selecting a carrier that can meet your requirements. Most carriers operate within a single country and with limited feature sets. This limits the ability to expand globally as time is now spent managing multiple carrier relations.

Additionally, teams are left to piece together disparate products. This is all without mentioning the pains of number porting, purchasing, and provisioning that comes from this segmented foundation.

All of this pain is endured without the tools and support you actually need, from a single global carrier, that enables you to painlessly build your communications platform as you want.

Streamline your workflow with Mission Control

The Mission Control Portal is an all-in-one cloud communications platform that gives you full control over your telephony stack. You can now centralize all of your telephony activity in a single platform that gives you the power to customize, simplify and scale communications.

The portal has become the go-to solution for the leading managed services providers in the industry, and a variety of enterprises that are looking to scale their telephony needs globally. Enterprises can streamline the customer experience and reduce the sales cycle by quickly onboarding new customers and their telephony requirements. Additionally, if you are a small business or just looking to set up a new phone number for your own personal use, the Mission Control Portal services your needs too.

Setting up a fully functional voice solution has never been easier than within the Telnyx Portal. Within 5 minutes, this guide will enable you to make inbound and outbound calls on a phone number of your choice. Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Sign up for a Telnyx Account
  2. Purchase a Phone Number
  3. Create a Connection to configure how you connect your calls
  4. Create an Outbound Profile to set up your outbound calling settings

Portal Signup

Let’s begin with the easiest step of all. Head to the signup page to sign up for your free Telnyx account. It’ll give you access to our Mission Control Portal, where you can buy numbers, set up and manage connections and a lot more.

Search and Purchase

Search for numbers by prefix or rate center location and purchase in seconds.

It’s now time to put that free signup credit to use. On landing in the portal, we will navigate to the ‘Numbers’ section located within the navigation menu on the left-hand side. It is here that you can search for, buy and provision new numbers, or port existing numbers. Other features that can aid your use-case and configuration include:

  • Global Search: Access to numbers in more than 60 countries and 13,000 US rate centers.
  • Different Number Types: Choose from voice, SMS, MMS, fax and toll-free numbers to find the right fit for your use case.
  • Instant Provisioning: Get instant phone number activation and a seamless porting experience with FastPort®.

Our number search offers you as much granularity as you need for your number requirements. Search by country, region or rate center or specify any repeating digits, letters or number features that you need. For this demo, we are going to search for a number in Omaha, NE. Purchasing the number is as easy as adding it to the cart and confirming your purchase.

Connect to the world with Connections

With a number now ready to go, it’s time to configure a connection to start accepting inbound calls. A Connection or Elastic SIP Trunk, allows you to scale voice services on demand with a global reach through Telnyx’s private network.

Configure a connection to instantly scale voice connections with Elastic SIP Trunking.

Select “Connections” on the left-hand navigation menu and then click “+ Add Connection”. A pop-up window appears that will help walk you through the necessary setup.

  1. Enter your desired name for the connection.
  2. Under connection type, we are going to select “Credentials”. For additional information on the other connection types, check out this support document.
  3. A username and password will be generated automatically but select the `Edit` button should you wish to set them yourself. Ensure that you set strong credentials.
  4. An optional step is to check out the advanced features as described below.
  5. In the “Numbers” section, set the connection on the number to the one we created in the previous step.

Advanced:

  • Registration Types: We offer 3 registration types on a connection that can be used to register your switch to our switch.
  • Events: Monitor the status of the calls in real-time with webhooks. Setup a failover URL to ensure you have ultimate redundancy and insight.
  • Anchorsite: By default, we proactively monitor the latency from your endpoints to our points of presence (PoP) to determine where your media should be anchored to ensure your packets get off the public internet as soon as possible, reducing latency and improving your call quality.
  • DTMF Type: Specify the desired means of signaling digits between user agent servers and user agent clients.
  • RTCP Settings: Configure the port to be used for reporting statistics about the ongoing call.

Outbound Calling

Setting up your outbound profile is the last step in obtaining 2-way voice connectivity with Telnyx. An outbound profile is needed to make calls through the Telnyx network with the number we just purchased. By configuring this profile and assigning it to our connection, we will be able to make calls to any other phone in the world.

Configure your connection to make crystal-clear outbound calls.

We begin by selecting “Outbound” on the left-hand navigation menu, and clicking “+ Add Outbound Profile”.

  1. Enter your desired name for the profile.
  2. Select the connection we created in the previous step.
  3. Select “Conversational” as the traffic type.
  4. Under “Service plan”, we will select “International + US-48/CAN”, as in this example we want to receive calls from North America, Belgium, and the UK. For US-only calls, we would choose “US-48/CAN” instead.
  5. For our “Billing method”, we are going to select “Tariff (Rate Deck)”.

Mission Complete

That’s it! You have successfully configured 2-way voice connectivity with Telnyx. You have now seen the power, simplicity, and scalability that the Mission Control Portal has to offer. In a matter of minutes, we have walked through number purchase and provision and you now have a fully functional Elastic SIP-trunk in operation.
