May the 4th be with you — especially if you’ll be in sunny Florida this year or happen to love gaming on Telos.

The SciFi Miami Game Jam is set for Star Wars Day (aka May 4th) and will include a category for Telos games, thanks to some prompting from our sharp-eyed block producers in South Florida. They truly never miss a chance to spread the word about Telos

In particular, a special mention is in order here for Praveen Yalamanchi, a co-founder of Telos Miami, producer for the festival, and the organizer for the Game Jam. Thanks, Praveen!

The Game Jam event will be free and open to remote participants as well as in-person attendees. Organizers want it to be a relaxed, friendly event where participants work either in a team or solo to make a playable game in a given period of time based on a theme.

The Miami event will take place at a time when gaming is emerging as a major use case for Telos in general. In particular, the recent decision by the startup Block Bastards to build their gaming product Qudo on the Telos chain has been getting a lot of attention throughout the global blockchain community, including coverage in Cointelegraph, a widely followed news site in the crypto space.

Qudo will allow any game built on the Unity game engine to add token-based rewards. That’s potentially a huge boon for gamers and the Telos community, considering that over 3 billion devices globally current run Unity-based games, according to data from the Unity website.

It’s also worth mentioning that the sci-fi and gaming community in Miami is quite passionate, especially regarding all things Star Wars-related. In 2018, they even had a Buddhist lama dedicate a book and prayer beads to the fictional Jedi master Yoda during the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival. Animator Mickael “Miko” Coedel, who worked on the special effects of the Star Wars film The Last Jedi, accepted the items on Yoda’s behalf at a ceremony during the conference.

Clearly, this is a community that knows how to have some sci-fun fun. To join them for the SciFi Miami Game Jam on May 4th, sign up at itch.io.
