You’ve probably heard the term “Metaverse” tossed around in conversations. Perhaps you’ve seen it on social media or even been approached by a friend to join them in a Metaverse game. But what exactly is it, and why are people so excited?
Essentially, the Metaverse is another name for any online world that can be accessed through technology. The name comes from an amalgamation of “meta-,” which means “beyond,” and “universe,” which is (as we all know) a collection of everything that exists. So, a #Metaverse would be a collection of everything beyond our known universe — or at least, what we currently understand as our universe.

You can be anonymous (or not). You can be whoever you want to be. Age, gender, race, and other factors related to appearance don’t matter! You can travel anywhere in seconds. If you’ve always wanted to go to Rome but never had the chance, you can explore a digital version of the Colosseum and see what it’s like. You can create something there that you couldn’t make in reality. So, for example, in the Metaverse, you could design a perfect rocket and send it into space without using any material resources or creating any pollution in the real world. You can buy digital goods that mirror something you might not be able to buy physically — like an island in the South Pacific. You can connect with people from all over the globe who share your interests and hobbies.
