Telos WPS — Working Group Update
2019–09–10, By Sukesh Kumar Tedla
Since the launch of Telos Working Group a couple of weeks ago, there have been many discussions and things happening in community channels and also behind the scenes.
Today, I would like to share an update and clear out some misconceptions about this group.
Let’s clear out some big misconceptions first:
- Is Telos WPS Working Group a central monitoring body of Telos Worker Proposal System?
— No, it’s not. Telos WPS working group will not monitor or filter-out any proposals. It is not a monitoring body of any sort instead it is established to bring new proposals which improve the system processes with good analysis.
- Why is the group private? Can I join the group to contribute?
—Anyone interested to contribute can absolutely join the group. The only reason the group is private is to maintain efficiency and to have quality discussions without getting lost in telegram discussions. All the interested parties can contact Sukesh Tedla (TelosGreen).
Now, that the misconceptions are cleared, I hope we can get on with progress update and mission of Telos WPS working group.
Progress Update
Since the announcement 3 weeks back we have attracted more than 10 community participants who are interested in contributing to this working group. Below is a summary of things we did so far:
- We had our first meeting. — Brainstormed a lot of topics, shared views and opinions. You can see my rough notes and beautiful handwriting in below image. :P
- We created a public project management board in Trello to streamline the progress of the group and to maintain transparency. Here is the link to the group for anyone interested in following what’s going on: https://trello.com/b/239xl9bc/telos-wps-working-group
Some Ideas and Thougts so far
These are just ideas and thoughts for now, after further discussions and feedback, we will formulate proposals for community support.
Dynamic Thresholds: One of the ideas that we came up to improve the accountability of the system is to have a dynamic threshold setup where smaller fund request WPs have low voting threshold requirements in comparison to WPs requesting higher amount of funds.
Example Scenario: Today, the standard threshold for all the proposals is to get 5% of votes from all the votable tokens.
In the new setup if two proposals A & B are requesting 50000 and 500k TLOS respectively, Proposal A have 5% vote threshold and Proposal B will have 10% vote threshold.
Additional Options to WPS proposal creation: This idea is mainly about adding new fields while creating a worker proposal. We believe that this can be easily implemented without any major changes to the system. Some of the new fields we thought of are following:
- Will this be an open source project?
- Will this be launched on other networks? If yes, when?
- Is this a Telos exclusive launch or limited to Telos for a certain time frame? If so for how long?
We think that having more information on the proposals can give voters more perspective on worker proposals.
We have a lot more ideas and they will be shared with the community in the upcoming posts. Thanks for reading and making Telos awesome.
