Like all sisters and sons of her house, Joule had spent her first months in the inner courtyard, tended by her Sisters. Where she learned the patterns of eating, sleeping, and play. Then on to the instincts of swimming, diving, and catching which her life would depend on, if she were selected to serve in the municipal pools. Stamina, speed and dexterity were required for the safety of the community.
