In reference t the article “There are other Options Besides Reopening Schools” by Ashley Fetters. For many years schools have played a pivotal role foe families and communities. Not only teaching children but also by providing a foundation of aid and programs geared towards helping the students and the community.

COVID has put a halt to a great deal of schools, children ae not only missing meals but their friends too. This has become a struggle for many parents, opening schools ultimately leaves parents with the tough decision to take the chance of their children becoming infected for their education.

Ashley states there are other alternatives besides online schooling like space sharing partnerships and compassionate leave policy but this demand would be costly for the government, time consuming and need a great deal of inventiveness.

This article was very informative, yet the fact remains that every school district will not receive the same quality and care. This has been a problems for decade within the urban communities. When many of the schools closed in March, students were required to be active with online learning but many did not have internet access.

Furthermore, I believe that all students should have a right to equal education despite ones socioeconomic status. The quality of education a student sustains can ultimately determine their life achievements and growth.

In addition, the article “Colleges Are Deeply Unequal Workplaces” written by Jeffrey Selingo was very interesting. Selingo sheds light on the “double standard” sort of say in regards to the treatment of staff and faculty.

Faculty usually refers to professors, adjuncts, graduate assistants etc. They acquire better job security because faculty are employed because of their scholarship. Staff are considered amorphous, mainly consisting of dinning workers, computer techs and maintenance. It is believed that Staff are hired to support faculty.

Yet, with COVID changing everyone's life upside down I believe both positions are greatly important to the college. I consider faculty and staff to be essential positions that are needed to keep the college functioning.
