Tendermint Fellowships was founded in Q4 2020 by Tendermint Inc. as a means of identifying and supporting talent and vision within individuals who are building with Cosmos. If selected, the fellow, or fellows, have a chance to receive up to 12 months of financial support from Tendermint to bring their project to completion as a chance to realize their Cosmos vision. For more information, check out our Fellowships Announcement blog post.

We are excited to welcome the Injective CTO, Albert Chon, to the Tendermint Fellowship Program.

The Injective team has shown tremendous support for the Cosmos ecosystem throughout the years. Consistent goals of the Injective team have been to implement a working version of Ethermint and to contribute mindshare to the Peggy bridge. Through multiple iterations, the Injective system is fully built on top of Cosmos. The final goal is to implement a layer 2 solution that is built using the Cosmos SDK.

Injective is building a decentralized derivatives exchange that enables the trading of limitless markets. Limit orders in Injective’s system are all Cosmos native based on the ABCI framework. Settlement and trade are also conducted in an EVM environment.

  • Futures rules are enforced on the EVM by using Ethermint
  • Spamming limit orders is prevented by using economics from the EVM
  • Deposits and withdrawals are also handled by Ethereum

The Injective launch strategy involves several phases of development that occur before mainnet. We’re looking forward to the incentivized testnet of the protocol to test out these various aspects:

  • Governance components
  • Consensus bugs
  • Trading dynamics

More flexibility for the protocol is expected because the infrastructure is being built on a native chain using the Cosmos SDK. The team expects to successfully implement an orderbook solution on a Cosmos native infrastructure. As decentralized perpetual swaps have proven to be very difficult, if not impossible, on layer 1 Ethereum. We’re anticipating innovative approaches through the use of bridge solutions for creating two-way pegs with Ethereum so the entire life cycle of a trade can be conducted in a decentralized fashion.

Thank you for all of the great work @InjectiveLabs!

Tendermint Fellowships

Last year, the program selected two fellows, Osmosis and Quasar. Check out what the teams have been doing and follow up on their progress here:

Osmosis

An on-chain generalized multi-token automated market maker and a self-balancing weighted portfolio built on the Cosmos SDK.

Osmosis has a vision for being a DEX laboratory for the Cosmos ecosystem. As AMMs evolve in the overall crypto space, new waves of innovation will emerge and develop to allow DeFi primitives in the Cosmos space.

Quasar

A lending/borrowing protocol in the form of CosmWasm contracts.

Quasar has worked in tandem with development with the Secret Network to further increase functionality for lending protocols. Utilizing CosmWasm smart contracts for this functionality, the team intends to integrate the Secret Network bridge and development paradigms from the Plasm ecosystem towards aligning different networks.

At Tendermint, we’re always looking for new Fellows. If you have a vision for your Cosmos project, give us a shout!
