Tern AI is excited to announce our collaboration with IBM to spearhead innovation in the Positioning, Navigation, and Timing industry. Our intent is to enhance the data architecture and pipelines that support Tern AI’s Independently Derived Positioning System IDPS™ by integrating IBM watsonx.data™.

IDPS™, the first AI position recognition system, was launched in February 2024. It is a signal-free, software-only positioning solution, driven by proprietary predictive artificial intelligence to ensure precise location determination. Specifically tailored for road network navigation, IDPS™ is engineered to sustain optimal performance, even during GPS disruptions or outages.

The innovative strength of IDPS™ lies in its ability to continuously determine precise locations using a sophisticated blend of AI/machine learning and patented position recognition technology. This proprietary navigation system intelligently synthesizes data from curated ECU and smartphone inputs, leveraging this information to independently and accurately derive positions.

In a recent article in Forbes, Diana Furchtgott-Roth, the former Deputy Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology at the United States Department of Transportation, highlighted Tern AI’s solution stating, “In sum, Tern AI is a low-cost answer to a problem that the U.S. Department of Transportation has been working on for decades.”

Through this relationship, Tern AI and IBM aim to develop a comprehensive library of synthetic drive data, equivalent to millions of miles driven. This initiative is designed to enhance the training of Tern AI’s artificial intelligence and machine learning models. We believe that Tern AI’s collaboration with IBM, combined with its existing commercial success, will help enhance our driving innovation in the positioning and navigation sector.
