From June 28–30th, a third Hackathon session on the Ternoa chain happened at Capgemini’s headquarters in Paris. This session was organized by Sogeti Labs (from Capgemini group), with the support of Capsule Corp. Labs, using technologies from Google and Ternoa, the tech partners of this event.

During this session, teams from the Capgemini group were asked to work on the needs and use cases of La Poste. France’s well-known postal service, which generates around $10 billion in revenue through its parcels and letters services, is actively seeking innovative ways to leverage NFTs to retain customers and transform its communication campaigns.

An industry leader eager to leverage web3 technologies

A leader in postal services, La Poste, is making strategic decisions to remain at the top of their industry despite strong and increasing competition. As part of this endeavor, they are exploring how tech innovation and web3 could help them achieve this goal.

Their objectives are twofold:

  1. to ensure advertisers continue using La Poste’s services for their communication campaigns
  2. to introduce advertisers to the vast range of La Poste’s services that they may not be aware of

Overall, La Poste is looking to enhance engagement, foster loyalty, and ultimately generate new sources of revenue.

Over the course of the three-day hackathon, teams worked to develop innovative solutions tailored to these goals on Ternoa. Let’s explore two of these projects in more detail.

Project #1: Using NFTs to create referral networks

This first project for La Poste revolves around creating NFT advertising drops, where possessing an NFT entitles advertisers to discounts:

  • Advertisers who purchase these NFTs will receive exclusive discounts on La Poste’s services.
  • With a token-gated platform, advertisers can mint a second NFT to be sent as a referral to another company.
  • The sponsor would receive a larger discount on their future ads, while the sponsored party would gain advantages such as increased visibility or access to La Poste’s network of customers.

The focus of Project #1 is to use NFTs to create tangible referral networks, identify influential advertisers, and optimize marketing strategies.

Project #2: Gamified Advertising with NFT Puzzles:

This second project developed a gamified ads journey for customers to increase engagement and attract advertisers to a new La Poste service:

  • QR codes are shared on ads, packages, and events,
  • Scanning a QR code unlocks a piece of an NFT puzzle,
  • Players collect puzzle pieces and can count on a secondary market of puzzle pieces to complete their puzzle
  • Secondary sales of puzzle pieces come with royalties applied and redistributed to the advertiser.
  • Once a puzzle is complete, the player wins a prize.

Project #2 was awarded first place by the Jury. It uniquely uses NFTs to increase end-users’ attention toward a service usually seen as a simple commodity. It is an entirely new ads distribution channel leveraging La Poste’s huge client base.

Wrap-up: Utility NFTs and Advertising

This hackathon session delivered disruptive ideas to transform advertising strategies.

Within only three days, teams discovered the power of NFTs in enhancing customer engagement by tying NFTs to discounts and special perks, utilizing NFTs as tokens of referral and tracking customer interactions, and empowering a more targeted and engaging campaign approach.

With an SDK in JavaScript and complex NFT primitives available without requiring smart contract development, Ternoa allowed teams to focus on product ideas instead of tech issues.

As blockchain technology continues to develop, we can expect to see even more innovative and engaging ways to use NFTs to reach consumers. We are very proud that Sogeti Labs and La Poste decided to put Ternoa at the core of this hackathon challenge.
