Terra’s first step towards building the interface to Web3 is complete.

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of Station 🛰 — an interchain wallet that simplifies the often complex, cumbersome process of interacting with multiple blockchain networks. With Station, users can easily stake, vote, send and receive tokens, and interact with their favorite dApps across all supported chains.

Note: If you already have Terra Station downloaded on your desktop, Chrome, or Firefox, reopen the app or refresh the extension, and you will be updated to interchain Station.

Defining the Future of the Interchain

At Terra, we envision a multi-chain future — one in which decentralized blockchain economies can align incentives with one another by creating bilateral, mutually beneficial economic agreements, and creating a new chain takes mere minutes. Station paves the foundation for this vision, providing those that automate chain genesis via Feather with immediate interchain wallet functionality, and supplying those chains that form economic alliances with others via Alliance with an easy-to-use, easy-to-integrate wallet to execute cross-chain transactions.

Today marks a critical inflection point as we draw closer to this future. Terra has continued its tradition of intuitive, uncomplicated design — users and developers across the Cosmos now have access to an interchain wallet that makes cross-chain experiences seamless and more enjoyable.

Staking Made Simple

One of the challenges for users looking to participate in proof-of-stake (PoS) networks is the process of selecting a validator to delegate their stake to. With many options available, it can be difficult to discern which one is suitable. Many users try to circumvent this burden and elect to stake to the first validator in the list, effectively contributing towards further network centralization, whether or not that’s their goal.

Enter Quick Stake. This feature streamlines the staking process across all Station-supported chains by automatically selecting and staking to a validator based on specific pre-disclosed criteria, such as voting power and historical performance. All users must do is choose their preferred chain and the amount they desire to stake — Station handles the rest.

Quick Stake optimizes for decentralization and selects validators on each network based on the following criteria:

  • Must be outside of the top 33% of validators by voting power
  • No slashing events in the last three months
  • Charges a commission rate of <= 5%
  • Must be in the active set

The Next Generation of Crypto Asset Management

Managing and tracking a crypto portfolio can be a daunting task, especially if you’re using multiple wallets or chains. However, it doesn’t have to be. With Station’s user-friendly interface and clear organization of assets, it’s easy to keep track of assets and make informed decisions. For example, add new tokens, monitor your portfolio at a glance, or send and receive tokens quickly across chains using Station’s pop-out sidebar wallet.

In addition, non-custodial wallets like Station offer several benefits that their centralized custodial counterparts can’t — one of which is complete control over funds. With a custodial wallet, users must trust the organization holding their funds to properly secure them and follow withdrawal best practices. However, there have been several incidents of custodial wallet providers suffering from security breaches or experiencing financial difficulties, translating to the loss or theft of user funds.

Non-custodial wallets, on the other hand, allow users to hold their private keys and manage their own funds. This means that users have sole control over their funds and are not dependent on a third party to access or remove them. In today’s current environment, with cases of custodial fraud exposing the underlying risks of centralized exchanges, the importance of non-custodial wallets has become even more evident. Station’s decentralized, non-custodial interchain wallet allows users to manage their funds directly at the wallet level, providing them with peace of mind and total control over their assets.

Interchain Governance

The Governance hub on Station allows users to view and vote on proposals for all supported chains in one convenient location. This saves users time by eliminating the need to switch between different interfaces or platforms to stay updated on proposals for various networks.

The Governance hub on Station has four tabs — Voting, Deposit, Passed, and Rejected:

  • Voting: displays proposals that are live in a voting period
  • Deposit: displays proposals that are currently in the deposit period and not yet live for voting
  • Passed: displays proposals that have received enough support from the relevant community to have been approved
  • Rejected: displays proposals that have not received enough support and have been rejected by the relevant community

Users can toggle between these tabs to explore the statuses of different proposals and stay informed on the governance processes of their preferred chains.

Chain Integrations

Station has launched supporting Terra, Osmosis, Juno, Kujira, Carbon, HuaHua, Crescent, Terra Classic, Mars (testnet), and Sei (testnet), but we anticipate many other chains will be added before February.

Integrations are actively being worked on with over 10 different chains, including:

  • Akash
  • Andromeda
  • Cheqd
  • Comdex
  • Cosmos Hub
  • Injective
  • Prism
  • Quicksilver
  • Regen
  • Secret
  • Stargaze
  • Stride

Note: Each chain is unique and has its own set of technical parameters, so certain integrations may require more time or end up not being possible.

Chain integration announcements, feature additions, and other Station-related news will be delivered on Twitter. Make sure to follow and turn on notifications for @StationWallet to stay apprised when new chains are added!

dApp Developers

After Station adds support for a given chain, dApp developers on that network will need to integrate the Station extension for users to connect to their application using a Station wallet. To integrate the Station extension, follow the steps in this simple guide.

If you or your team have questions regarding integration, feel free to join the Terra Discord and send a message in the # 🛰 | station channel — our team will be happy to answer them for you!

Getting Started with Station

Whether you’re an existing crypto user looking to import your wallet into Station, or a new user setting up a Station wallet for the first time, these step-by-step guides will get you up and running in no time:

Important Note: In order to import an existing wallet into Station (e.g. Terra Station, Keplr, etc.), users will need to enter their mnemonic seed phrase. Station will derive a user’s wallet address for each chain from the same mnemonic seed phrase. Station must reload the mnemonic seed phrase in order to detect tokens held in wallets that were created via the 118 derivation path. For more information on seed phrases, visit the Keys page.

Enhancing the Station Experience

At Terra, we are always searching for ways to improve user experience and make our apps as useful and enjoyable as possible. Whether you have a suggestion for a new feature, a question about something that’s not working as you think it should, or just want to share your thoughts on how Station can be made better, we would love to hear from you. Your feedback is invaluable, and it helps us make Station the best that it can be!

To provide feedback, join the Terra Discord and send a message with your comments in # 🛰 | station.

Looking Ahead

Eight months ago, the Terra economy faced its toughest challenge to date. Notwithstanding, when others would have bowed out, Terra’s core community stayed, unflinching and ready to rebuild. One of the first innovations to come as a result is Station, which represents an important step towards building a future we can all be proud of — one where decentralized economies, open-source innovation, and cross-chain collaboration win.

Station reimagines what interchain blockchain experiences should feel like — smooth, simple, and intuitive. Now, users and developers can take advantage of a wallet that allows one to stake, vote, send, and receive one’s favorite assets across chains with ease, abstracting away unnecessary complexity.

As new chains and features are added over time, Station will evolve to become the single place to sign all crypto transactions — the canonical center of interchain transaction execution.
