Every week we ask a Terra team member to let us know who they are. Here’s Jeremy.

What wearables do you use?

I use the polar verity sense for workouts to extract my heart rate and kind of see which heart rate zones I’m in — I mostly use this for running interval training sprints. If we go way down memory lane I used to wear the Jawbone Up24 — I think it was released back in 2014…

Wow — what a great name for a wearable!

… I know, haha! I was also passed down a Fitbit Flex from my dad and older brother back in the day, which literally just had dots on it and I connected it to an iPhone 4 I believe. It was great for a 12-year-old to play around with back in 2015 — back then, I probably averaged about 11 hours of sleep, now it’s more like 6 or 7 hours haha!

The ever-famous Terra question — do you lift?

Haha, yes I love working out, and it’s been fun to go with the guys from the office at Terra to push each other in the gym as well. I like the physical side of it, but I also find it very helpful to clear my mind and be in good mental shape. Also, I see working at Terra as a type of gym environment, where I’m motivated to set goals, push limits, and continually learn to adopt an entrepreneurial mindset.

What are some of your hobbies?

I love to hike and travel to new places. Whenever I’m not caught up in Terra, work, or coursework, I love to get involved in activities where I can be creative or play, just getting an escape from the busyness of life. I especially love music, I get excited by the power music has to bring people together and evoke emotions. This led me to start producing my own music, and I was able to release a project on Spotify and Apple Music during the height of the pandemic. My first release won the Universal Music Group x Spinnup Asia’s inaugural songwriting competition…

Wow… That’s awesome!

… Haha, yes! Also, I was headhunted by you (Halvard) to use one of my beats for our day-in-the-life video of an SWE at Terra with Hanbo. That is now on our YouTube channel, which is cool!

Do you play any instruments?

Yes, I’m classically trained in piano and cello. I had the opportunity to play the cello in international competitions, such as the Musikverein in Austria, which is widely considered the most prestigious concert hall in the world due to its rich musical heritage.

Where did you grow up?

I was born and raised in Australia but have lived in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, and now London, UK. I find that living in these metropolitan cities has given me a unique perspective on entrepreneurship and life. Each location has its own pace of life, yet they all share a common thread of driven and motivated individuals.

I assume the hiking scenery in Australia is quite extraordinary?

I love a good adventure. The Grand Canyon in the luscious Blue Mountains in Sydney has been my favorite — some stunning sandstone cliffs, deep valleys, and rolling hills. Super dope trail with nice lookout spots. I highly recommend this trail to anyone who loves nature, adventures and exploring historical places.

How do you find balancing part-time work at Terra with full-time studies?

It’s awesome! Balancing work and studies is always challenging, but working part-time at Terra while pursuing an Economics degree at King’s College London has been extremely rewarding. It is so cool to be a part of a fast-growing early-stage start-up as it allows me to learn and make a tangible impact. It’s something not many people have the opportunity of doing. I can apply the knowledge and skills I learn at Uni to real-world projects at work, enhancing my ability to succeed at school and in life in general.

How was it to be a part of IC Hack 2023?

IC Hack 23 was such an amazing experience! I had the opportunity to give the team a helping hand with planning pre-event prizes, helping out students at our stall, and documenting the entire event with my camera. You might have recognized me in my snapback and Terra hoodie, trying to capture candid movements. I’m super happy that the photo I took of Raouf on stage is now his LinkedIn profile picture! My other photos and videos from the hackathon can be found on our YouTube and LinkedIn pages.

Lastly, as a team that loves to eat, what’s your favorite food?

I love trying different types of new food, which is why I love living in London. The variety of food here is great, especially in the food markets — such as the seven dials market next to our office here in Holborn, London. I love eating cheeky Nando’s with my friends, but my favorite food is when the portions are big — which is usually the case for our team dinners, haha!
