ENQUIRY ON THE UNKNOWN

A brand new vacancy stilled deeply inch by inch
Seeds of uncovered confusion ramified;
Following the tangled roots of the visionary plants
Retiring visually
And retreating gradually.
No, not with the go-betweens
And dissatisfying make-believes;
I need to snatch out the truth myself,
Which I always willed to seize:
Not with the futile pleadings neither;
That’d be asking too much for me
To bear another failure.
Then I saw people tracing to the abyss
Of their living hopes once kept vague
But all the lights are switched off to blindness,
Convincing them well enough
To consent their pointless sombreness;
Therein I got to know you only for once
But I have loved you twice:
One for the promised felicity
The other remains obscure,
Delating the hollow in me.
Nothing seems to disabuse me wide awake
Of this ever-lasting self-recurring daydream
Or relieve me of heaviness of the fretting questions:
So reticence is now another expedient that I am faking,
Since speech only compels one to a sure forsaking.
