This past weekend Terrapin Ticketing was used in its first live event to facilitate the buying, selling, and transferring of second-hand tickets for the Columbus Brewgrass Festival.

Over 95 tickets worth more than $4,000 were exchanged on Terrapin this weekend with zero incidents of fans being shut out of the show.

The Columbus Brewgrass Festival was a perfect application for Terrapin Ticketing’s second-hand ticket market platform. It was a two day event with bands with active online communities, offered single or multi-day ticket options, and sold out of primary tickets two days ahead of show time.

Fans with extra tickets or those who missed out on the initial on-sale needed to go online to buy and sell second-hand tickets with each other. This usually means scouring Facebook event pages or Craigslist, looking for people to buy/sell tickets from, messaging them, agreeing on a price, and then finally exchanging money and tickets.

With Terrapin, we streamlined that process by allowing fans to activate their tickets on our system and turn their tickets into SmartTickets that can be marked for sale or transferred securely to other fans using their email address. All tickets marked for sale were automatically aggregated and displayed on one page where fans without tickets could purchase them in seconds. When a ticket changed ownership, the old barcode became void and a new one was generated to guarantee entry into the event.

This makes Terrapin an essential feature for promotors and artists who want to maximize their event’s attendance.

“It was really cool to observe how fans behaved when buying, selling, and transferring tickets was so seamless,” said Kenny Holmes, the promotor for Columbus Brewgrass. “We had some people mark their unused tickets for sale after doors opened, another fan buy them a few minutes later, and then transfer them to their friends who were waiting outside the show. It made for a hassle free experience for those fans whose plans change at the last minute.”

Reducing transfer friction helps increase overall attendance at your live event and bring in additional revenue through increased food and beverage sales. Don’t just take our word for it though, here are some comments we received from customers this past weekend.

“I was hesitant at first because I’m lazy and didn’t want to register. Turns out it was super simple, didn’t require lots of your personal info and the service was FREE for ticket transfer?! Good job. I’ll definitely recommend to friends and will use again.” — Azile McElwain

“I was able to post my ticket to Terrapin with only a few clicks from my original ticket and got an email two hours later telling me that it sold with zero work from me! It was a piece of cake.” — Joe Bramlage

“There was no involvement from me. I just sat back, and got an email saying that my ticket was sold.” — Abbie Amor

“I found it super easy to use and much better and easier than Stubhub or Craigslist” — Brian Oliveira
