Boldly Going Where? PYL In-Flight: Mar 4, 2025
Welcome Back My Audacious Passengers:
Over the last few weeks, I’ve had the honor of meeting one-on-one with several of my students from my Stanford Continuing Studies class that ends tonight. It was something I started by accident after scheduling a separate discussion time for the gals on the east coast who watch the recordings, but can’t attend real time due to the lateness of the class.
I enjoyed the conversation with the gal so much that I decided to open it up my calendar to the rest of the class and five more women opted in for some incredible conversations. I used the discussions as an experiment in coaching, to identify themes, and gather some info on how I might want to structure coaching for a select group of women each year.
Were there themes? Yes. All of the women want more purpose and meaning in their lives. All of them felt the need to cloak their desire to choose themselves in being of service to someone else (or many people).
They were struggling to choose themselves, follow their heart’s desire, without a broader justification. I can relate. That may have been one of the reasons we started Zeke and Terri Adventures…how could we justify traveling for the sake of travel and discovery without making a business of it?
Another theme was around not wanting to act small…to step more into their light and take risks. Several of them said they weren’t risk takers but that wasn’t the case at all. They do take risks but they are thoughtful about the risks they take.
They are all incredibly capable and interesting and bold women actively seeking the optimal way to live the next halves of their lives. It was such a joy to speak with each and every one of them and I can’t wait to follow their adventures as they take the first bold step, and then the next, and then the next to see what opportunities present.
On Thursday, I travel through Houston (ugh!) to Managua, Nicaragua for two weeks for a Bloom Digital Nomad program and to spend time with my friend Christy (pictured above) on the Emerald Coast.
After we made some changes to Zeke and Terri Adventures to release videos every other week, our schedule opened up for solo travel. Zeke is on the plane back from Australia after 18 days of cycling from Melbourne to Sydney and I needed to come up with a trip of my own.
Originally I wanted to travel with our son Adam to Japan but he wasn’t up for it so Zeke suggested I take a look at Christy’s course. The timing was good and it inspired me to set aside the time to think bigger and bolder about Terri Hanson Mead, Piloting Your Life, women’s health, and navigating midlife for women.
I’ll be the only one attending this session so there have been some changes to the agenda which is awesome! It’s essentially been tailored to what I need. It’s also going to be five days instead of eight which means I get to spend more time with Christy and exploring Nicaragua as I define and begin executing a new plan. I plan on taking advantage of yoga and the ocean and the Nica vibe to offset the big, bold thinking.
The women I spoke with inspired me to stop playing small, to choose what I want because I want it, and let go of what other people might say or think. Mel Robbins’ book The Let Them Theory is helping out with that one.
Teaching the class for a second time has given me the opportunity to revisit some of the material from Piloting Your Life including asking myself the question, ‘what would you do if you knew you could not fail?’ If I am asking my students to reflect on this question, it’s only fair that I do the same.
Fair to whom? That’s a great question. Fair to me? Fair to the world? Who am I to be playing small? In Richard Branson’s book Screw Let’s Do It, he says that playing small doesn’t serve the world and I wholeheartedly agree.
I can’t wait to share with you what comes from my time in Nicaragua with Christy and Thomas and the amazing sunsets. In the meantime, what are you doing to step into your light? What bold steps and actions are you taking? Drop me a line at pilotingyourlife@gmail.com and let me know.
May you find peace, acceptance, and love today as you navigate being human.
With much love and gratitude,
Terri
