We women are bombarded with messaging about how we can be better, look better, and feel better as we strive to be our “best selves” living our best lives. Honestly, it’s exhausting to constantly be self-improving.

January tends to be the worst month for this kind of messaging. We are encouraged to lose the extra pounds gained over the holidays and kickstart new habits because a ‘new year means a new you.’ Blech! I am so done with this.

Rather than add anything more to our already filled plates, I thought we should, instead, let go. Let go of what no longer serves us. Let go of the clutter. Let go of the extra baggage. And let go of what’s holding us back.

It’s time for us to travel lighter, emotionally and energetically, in 2020 and into the new decade.

And what better topic for January’s Crew Chat than letting or as I say in the book, eliminating drag.

So grab your girlfriends and a bottle or two of your favorite beverage (with or without alcohol) and find yourself a comfy (preferably private) place to talk about letting go.

You can refer to chapters 6–8 in Piloting Your Life (the book) for some questions to prompt discussion including:

— Do I let perfection get in the way of my happiness?

— What can I learn from my latest failure?

— Am I suffering from old wounds from my childhood? From my twenties?

— What can I do to find peace and closure?

— What limiting beliefs are holding me back?

— What stuff can I let go of?

What is stuff? According to the article “8 Exercises to Help You Let Go of the Things That No Longer Serve You” stuff can be classified in four buckets:

Internal: beliefs, values, goals, duties, obligations

Behavioral: habits, hobbies, pursuits, commitments

Physical: possessions, ownership

People: relationships, roles, groups, connections

Enjoy your conversation with your Crew and leave feeling a little lighter and ready to take on the year.
