Piloting Your Life In-Flight Entertainment (2019…Another Year of the Woman) (Jan 8, 2019)
Welcome Back My Resolute Passengers:
As I write this I am looking out at a rainy, stormy Sunday and am somewhat dreading getting my act together to head up to San Francisco for the first of my three days at the JP Morgan Life Sciences conference. I love the conference and opportunity to learn and meet with smart and talented folks in the life sciences space, but this is year three of rain which makes the conference a bit of a challenge. The venues for the conference are all over the City which means carrying coats, umbrellas, and finding ways to stay dry as I navigate around. Fortunately, it’s worth it.
As I start 2019, I continue to reflect on the changes in my life over the last four years since I decided to get into angel investing. I need to write a blog post on these reflections later this week as they deserve more than a paragraph in this post. Needless to say, I am doing things I hadn’t even known existed as possibilities for me, and I continue to define how I want to be (and who I want to be) in this world. More on this later.
I’ve been doing a lot of research for Piloting Your Life (the book) and have been pleasantly surprised by what I’ve learned about women (and men) in midlife. I now have a completely different view of what I thought of as a pivot for me when really, it’s more of a journey (which ties right into Piloting Your Life) into uncharted territory where I get to define the way points (goals), stopping points (milestones), and my overall path and who I bring along on this journey. Earlier in our lives we have milestones set for us based on social norms…high school, college, first jobs, marriage (our coupledom), dogs, kids. Then we get to our kids’ milestones until they are off to college and we are left with wide open territory in front of us (and yes I realize not everyone goes to college or gets married or has kids but you get the picture). Now it’s about living intentionally, choice, finding more joy, and living a life with greater meaning. Such a great opportunity!
I am more excited than ever about experimenting with new things, learning from those experiments, and continuing to grow as a person (preferably mentally and emotionally and not physically). I plan to share more of my journey and learnings over the next year. Despite the global economic uncertainty and the instability in Washington, I am hopeful and optimistic for 2019. I hope you are too.
In-Flight Entertainment (New Year Bubbly Bonus)
I was so focused on researching for my new book that I didn’t get around to scheduling any new interviews, which means you get to enjoy another Bubbly Bonus with me in conversation with my producer, Jacqueline. I’ve also decided to change up the first season of 2019 of Piloting Your Life to focus on women’s health which we talk about in this episode along with what we see as opportunities for women (including ourselves) in 2019. Enjoy the conversation.
