Piloting Your Life: In-Flight Entertainment (Finding Joy in Chasing Bubbles) (Apr 3, 2018)
Welcome Back My Birthday Party Passengers:
This week I celebrate my birthday and once again I will be celebrating it without my sister Sherry. We are identical twins and I learned last year that there are two types of twins: twin embracers and twin repellers. I am a twin embracer. I’ve always loved being a twin. I thought (and still think) it was the coolest thing and that it made us very special (we will disregard that fact that some research has suggested that being an identical twin is a genetic defect in that the fertilized egg was weak and split). Unfortunately, my sister is a twin repeller and has always hated being a twin…or at least my twin.
I’ve spent the last five or so years learning to live as a singlet in that she has chosen to not be in my life which is unfortunate and pretty much outside of my control at this point. Early on it felt like I was missing a limb or part of my soul but I’ve done a lot of work to make myself whole, on my own, without her, and most days I am pretty good. Other days I mourn the loss of her in my life.
But since it is spring and the start of a new year for me, I choose to live my life surrounded by hope, opportunity, love, and the people who not only accept me for who I am, but love and appreciate me for it as well. And I choose to be like Emma here in this picture…reaching for the effervescent bubbles that life has to offer with boundless joy and optimism.
In-Flight Entertainment: Birthday Bubbly Bonus
Tuesday Interview: What better way to enjoy effervescence than with a birthday bubbly bonus. Jacqueline and I sat down over a bottle of Iron Horse Vineyard Ocean Reserve and talked about the bad ass women we have been interviewing, what it was like to grow up in a family business, my relationship with my sister, the biggest lesson I’ve learned in my 48 years (spoiler alert: be the pilot in your own life), and what I would do with a magic wand. Happy birthday to me!
