Piloting Your Life: In-Flight Entertainment (God Can’t Save America; Only You Can) (Sept 23, 2020)

Welcome Back My Activated Passengers:

Do you remember where you were on the night of Tuesday, November 8, 2016? Do you remember how you felt as the night progressed?

While I wish I could forget that night, I most likely won’t. We are living in the hellscape that came from the torturous night and are struggling to escape.

I was at a Sand Hill Angels RAW event where founders were given 3 minutes to pitch to us investors. We had 3 minutes to ask questions and 5 minutes to give feedback. I used to love these nights.

We had pizza and beer and eight or nine fired up (and nervous) founders tried to get us investors excited about them and their startups and potentially invest in them.

But that night was different. I was there with the usual investor suspects and a new group of eager founders. There was one, and only one, woman founder Susan Sierota of Waggit. As usual, I made an effort to connect with her.

Because of that night, and what transpired, we will be connected for life. Under normal circumstances we would have just been frriends.

We were all monitoring the election results as we were paying attention to the pitches. I was most concerned as I was the only woman investor there. I knew what was at stake. The other cis-het-white men had no clue. Their lives, their bodies, their civil liberties, and their autonomy weren’t at stake; it never had been. But for me and Susan, everything was at risk with this one election.

We all know how that night ended.

I remember reassuraing Susan that we would be fine. I reember telling her that the results from the more liberal states had yet to be counted.

But I was wrong.

I was so distracted I had to leave and go home much to the disappointment of the founders looking for my feedback. I still remember feeling the fear and shock as I drove home from the Sand Hill Angels offices in Mountain View, not far from Google to my home in Redwood City.

I needed the safety and security of my home, my husband Zeke, and our kids. I was devastated. Not just because Hillary lost, but because of who won and what that meant.

So many of us knew exactly what that meant. Othrers have since realized what we knew then and we’ve been witness to the desctruction, the negligence, the nastiness, the corruption, the maliciousness, the immorality, and now our democracy is on the brink.

I hope it survives but after the last four years, it’s really hard to have hope in the American people. There are some shitty-ass people out there and they are desperately holding on to archaic ideals that have long since disappeared. They cannot see the reality and want it to be something different. And their delusion is threatening so much of what we hold dear.

If you are American and love America. If you love what it should stand for and believe in justice for all. If you are afraid of what is to come if Trump and McConnell continue with their corrupt and malicious behavior, it’s time to fight. It’s time to speak up. It’s time to activate.

We are out of time.

Check out yesterday’s YouTube video for simple and easy ways to get involved. Start with registering to vote. And then encourage your friends to vote. And maybe volunteer at a polling station and donate money to some of the critical senatorial campaigns. We all have to do our parts. We are at war.

What are you waiting for?

YouTube: We Are Ruth-Less (Time to Fight Fight Fight!)
I saw the term ‘Ruth-Less’ and thought it was perfect. We may be Ruth-Less but we aren’t out of options. Check out Tuesay’s video for ways to get active and get involved. It’s not too late but we are rapidly approaching that point.

YouTube: T is for Troublemaker (Sliding into 2021)
When I recorded this video last Wednesday, I didn’t know that two days later would be Rosh Hashanah or that RBG would be dead.

I started the video by saying that I was feeling more optimistic because the air was clear and we had blue skies. I suggested that we reflect on what good has come from the shitshow that is 2020 and that we should be planning for 2021.This was before I was sucker punched by the RBG news so when you watch the video, keep that in mind. I still think these are exercises worth doing.

What’s my challenge for you today? If you are an American and are able to vote, join me on Landslide2020.org and let’s make sure all of our friends and their friends and their friends get out and vote. Our lives and rights depend on it. Join my crew and let’s save our democracy.

With much love and gratitude,

Terri

P.S. Take the controls and be the pilot in your own life. It’s a beautiful day to fly, and you are cleared for takeoff.
